Greetings,

I recently purchased a lightly used 10/22 from another CGNer. (It has not arrived yet) I used to have one and in a weak moment I sold it, but I do remember the trigger sucked. Reading some of the stickies here I'm looking at either a Kidd single or Kidd two stage trigger. Application is plinking, grouse etc. I am interested in peoples input who have actually bought or used one or the other trigger.

As well, input on aftermarket extractor and firing pin is welcome.

Not really interested in fancy stocks or other cosmetics just the meat and potatoes that makes it cycle like a clock and enhances accuracy.

Single stage for speed shooting, two stage for precision. Sounds more like precision for you.

Vq firing pin and extractor. Don’t bother with the titanium stuff. Reliability from the extra mass is more important than .001 less lock time.

Building a 10/22 comp gun. Barrel will be a while so doing some research on other mods I may want to do. Would love to hear input from others on their recommendations. Looking at competing in both X22 and CRSP.

IMHO the best bang for your buck is the ruger BX trigger pack. Buy some metal polish and polish the hammer and disconnecter to get a nicer crisper trigger break. You save yourself $100’s that you can spend on other upgrades. The hunting gear guy on YouTube (also a CGN’er) has a couple great videos on 10/22’s that are worth the watch.

As for extractor and firing pin, can’t beat Kidd. If you purchase a Kidd bolt, they will be standard. I know you asked opinions on only the Kidd triggers, but I think a polished BX is has an edge because of cost. The savings would be enough for a Kidd bolt.

Cheers

I don't have a Kidd 2 stage right now, I was talked out of it in a weak moment. It was very nice, but as mentioned, probably best off the bench, not that it didn't work in the field. I still have a single stage. It's in a Ruger receiver, Kidd ultra light barrel, Dlask bolt, VQ extractor and Hogue stock. I've got a first gen Vortex Viper 1-4 on it. For me it's a very good "grab & go" fiel, truck 22. The trigger is very nice, the rifle is very accurate, very reliable and, for me, does everything well and some things exceptional. Anyway, I'm very happy with the Kidd single stage as a field/ hunting/ plinking trigger. I also have one with the VQ trigger kit installed, and it's good, but not a Kidd. I'm also thinking about sending one to Brimstone, just to see how it works out.

I went through the trigger thing with a SR-22. Had a 1.5lb Jard, tried a BX and finally a Tier 1 Brimstone x 2lb. Best overall was by far the Brimstone and also the best value for the $$. Just couldn`t see spending $400+ on a trigger for a 10/22.

I'm currently building a Grey Birch 10/22 from scratch. Waiting on most parts in the mail. I looked at Kidd and other trigger packs but decided on the Ruger BX ($120). I purchased the Mcarbo spring kit ($18) and polished the hammer and sear (FREE). Holy moly did (polishing) that ever make a difference in reset. Before you could feel the grittiness of the metal on metal. After polishing it's smooth as butter. I don't have a pull gauge so I don't know what my trigger pull is at after polishing and spring kit.

Up until recently, I was using the upgraded BX trigger. It is great for the money, probably the best value. Recently had the opportunity to purchase a two-stage Kidd for a great deal. At the price, it's not as much value, but worth every penny. It is a great trigger in every way, extremely consistent on the scale as well. I would consider purchasing another for a future build, very impressed.

I have a Clark trigger kit - I don't think you can get them any more. Bought a Ti extractor and it seems to run a bit better but that could be more because the old extractor was a bit worn.
The Clark is better than factory but it's not quite as good as a target trigger module on the Walther.
Other customizations - bore out a hole in the rear of the receiver to enable cleaning from the breech without removing the barrel.

Nice thing about Brimstone is you don't have to send in your original. They have the option on their website to buy a Ruger OEM trigger pack from them and they modify it.

My 1022 is my main gopher gun . I put a BX trigger in last summer and it is very nice for the price .
I get about 1000 gophers a year with that gun and the cheap BX trigger made it a much nicer experience , increased my accuracy too .
If I was looking to make it a target rifle I might spend the higher prices for makes like Kidd but for just over a hundred bucks the BX is a great trigger .

Installed a Timney in one and the KIDD trigger kit in the other.

Both around three pounds.

Keep shopping for Ideas . . . Rimfire central has a section dedicated to 10/22 triggers.

Both kidd triggers are exceptionally good. For plinking and hunting, I prefer a single stage trigger and the KIDD is by far the best one made for the 10/22. If it was strictly a bench rifle then I would go 2 stage. Either way you will be fine, just have to decide which one you prefer more.

I have a kidd 2 stage in my 10/22 plinker. It gets used alot. It's the best trigger of any firearm I have ever used. Regarding the firing pin and extractor you may want to consider just purchasing the complete bolt from kidd if it's in the budget it is about $100 more than the cost of pin and extractor. I threw one in mine and have no complaints. Works awesome, they make some nice stuff.

My Ruger 10/22 is my ptarmigan getter and youth initiation rifle.
I'm not a fan of 2 stage triggers, they are good, it's personal preference. There a many options out there for sure. I opted for the easy and fast route with a Kidd trigger assembly with bolt hold open. Easy 2 pin install. Crisp let off. Woks fine all year round including -30 degree winters.
Witch ever you choose, always a good upgrade.
Have fun!!
