Ruger 10/22

I've had my 10/22 for a couple of months now and it's lots of fun. I bought an after market butler creek synthetic stock ( approx $65) and it shoots fine and feels great. My Step Father bought the same model and there is no comparison for comfort and weight going from the after market to the standard stock. For large capacity mags... I've only been able to find 25 rnd Hot lips mags for approx $22 at Wholesale sports in Calgary.
My wife and I have a great time with ours and she picked it up much easier than with our old Savage MkII ( she's a noob but learning). Have fun!

I am going Saturday morning to get a stock model. I am already drafting up the wish list for accessories, not yet decided on a stock, I will decide that later, will do the action first and shoot it for a while. Thanks for the input.

Picked it up today! I grabbed a standard with synthetic stock, a 1.5-4.5 scope, and a couple of Butler Creek mags. I am going to the range tomorrow to try it out. Pretty excited!

Anyone find a particular round that works best with these rifles? My local Walmart has Federal and Winchester. I picked up a box of American Eagle 40gr but will pick up more of another brand to try. Will the lead bullets foul my barrell up quickly?

With the "regular" (ie. non-match type) cartridges, I've found the CCI Minimags to be the most reliable. But truthfully, after I changed the extractors on my 10/22s to the VQ one, I can feed it pretty much anything without too much of a difference. Mine like the cheap American Eagle ones also.

Hitting a shotgun shell at 50m with American Eagle is all the accuracy I need. The American Eagle is cheap too. I found the Eley EPS to put 5 rounds through the same hole, but far to expensive to plink with.

Ok, back from the range. You guys need to know that pretty much all I do is IPSC pistol and the like for shooting discipline, and haven't taken rifle shooting very seriously for a long time, likely more than 15 or so years ago with my dad. I am in LOVE with this gun. So is my wife, she probally fired at least 150 rounds thru it, and at least 300 from me. I used some Walmart Winchester 40gr copper plated stuff and I had a few hangups, but nothing serious, and this was while using the Butler Creek all plastic 25 rounders. I intend to switch out the extractor, hammer&sear, etc.. but I think the accuracy this barrell will give me will be enough. I read some articles on bedding with the stock barrell, and I think I might give it a try. This gun may find its way someday to become a bull barrelled tackdriver, but after the fun we had today, I am going to tune the action with some aftermarket stuff and enjoy it. I am afraid I may find the need to buy another for the missues. It was hard for me to get a turn for a while today hehehe... The fun is what it's all about! Thanks again for the insight guys!

Wheeljack, you hit the nail on the head. She was a little intimidated by the handguns, but really enjoyed the rifle. I may get another over the summer, we'll see; I will have to vacate some other items from the vault to make room though. Another question to everyone- which big mags are the best? I bout the Butler Creek all plastic ones, one is 100%, the other was giving the odd hangup. I assume the ones with the metal lips are better? Thanks again for all the input!
