Couple of buddies kept talkin bout their Rugers and all the stuff they did to them and the money they had spent, (each around 1500) and I thought they were nuts. So I bought a new Ruger and got bit by the bug. I was lucky enough to order a Kid 18 inch stainless barrel from Fabsports and a Yukon Thumbhole stock from Rimfire in the States. Now just waitin for shipping to happen. Will post pics once its complete........

Welcome aboard:wave:
You wont be disapointed with the 10/22.
They are however very addictive and you just cant have one.So many mods and kits for theese rifles it will make your head spin.

You will be disappointed when it constantly jams on you however that is only a reason to mod it more.

Funny i have owned over a dozen 10/22 and one of the only mods i realy did was a exact edge extractor. Most of the jams are mag related.

This jamming thin is really weird. I have only 1 10/22, so can't really comment much on it, but I can say mine never jams. I can shoot ammo either with the standard or the Kid heavy barrel on it and it never jams, even with ammo that's not supposed to be powerful enough to make a semi auto work. Go figure!

Mine seems to function well even with cheap low power .22 lr's. Green mountain barrel and steel lips mags only though.

Welcome to the club Len. Just don't tell us we didn't warn you. Boe just got a line on another field to try out one of these days so hopefully we get another nice Sunday off :)

Ruger 10/22 Target tactical doesn't jam at all! Put about 1000 round through it so far and the only issue has been a couple fail to feeds from some sh tty ammo! No mods necessary with this model! Shoots better than I can! Dime size groups at 25, 1/2 inch at 50! I am excited about owning a .22 for the first time! (Foot in mouth) I was raggin on guys for the .22 facination awhile ago, but not anymore.

Oh, back when it was newer, I tried cheap target ammo in it (it was called Lapua Trainer or something like that), and it just didn't have enough juice to work the bolt all the way to the back every time. Result: every now and then I would get a cocked hammer and the bolt closing on an empty chamber. But I still shot that ammo in it, because it was the first ammo to give me 1/2", 10 shot groups at 50m with the factory skinny barrel.

Forward I don't know how many hundreds of rounds into the future, and it now feeds different types of target ammo with speeds between 1,030 and 1,080, like it's nobody's business. It just won't stop. The Kid barrel won't accept CCI Stingers, though, but I wouldn't call that a jam. :)

Mine runs like clockwork on anything I care to feed it, including standard velocity target ammo, using either the factory or Steel Lips magazines. I bought it used and it stovepiped when I first got it, most likely due to a worn extractor. This was fixed with a Volquartsen extractor. I also radiused the bottom rear edge of the bolt where it cocks the hammer when it recoils back to smooth out cycling, particularly with standard velocity ammo.

The 10/22 is basically a good design, but the execution often leaves something to be desired as they come from the factory.

I've had my 10/22 for almost 10 years now and it has been great. Gone through a few changes from the standard stock and a carbon fiber barrel, to a rubberized stock and a .920 with volk internals and some extras. Enjoy yours, it will last decades.

I cannot say that I have had any trouble with the 10 round magazine supplied with the 10/22 Standard I purchased but the 25rd magazines have been less then reliable. Regular or 'Steel Lips' mags allow jams, stovepipes, failure to feed. I'd like to meet a 10/22 and large capacity mag combo that would do as advertised. Perhaps I got a Lemon, or must one modify it to make it function?
