Ruger 1022 Problem

Ive been shooting CCI Blaser in my 1022 and had a violent case separation yesterday while rabbit hunting. the magazine rocketed out the bottom, and the extractor and extractor plunger got launched somewhere into the bush.

Ill probley use this as an excuse to upgrade to a VQ, Ive seen the extractors for sale, but where can I source an extractor plunger, preferably in Canada.

oh, and CCI can kiss my.....;)
 
Me personally I got lazy and just Dremeled down a nail and smoothed out the edges slightly and took a pen spring. Obviously test fit the nail and spring that they fit snug in the bolt prior to cutting them down. As for actual parts, contact Ruger.

ive still got my spring, maybe if someone is kind enough to measure it, i can make one over the holidays.

second or third time its happend with the CCI blazer. really loud bang, case head separates. Magazine usually rockets out the bottom (as if designed too during a failure), this time the plunger and extractor went for a flight.

last time, I was at the range, and was firing left handed, got my forearm peppered with small bits of brass and unburnt powder.

its the only brand ive ever seen do that.
 
That's spooky. No CCI's for me then. Some of my .22lr handguns give you a little arm speckle when things are normal, you could lose an eye in a hurry if that happened! Glad I always wear specs when I shoot. Thunderbolts and CCI's on my crap list.
 
Sounds like the gun was dirty, didn't chamber the round properly and fired out of battery. More than likely not a CCI issue exclusively. ;)
 
I stopped using Blazers in my SR22. They were misfiring every 2nd or 3rd shot. And some even went off with a louder bang or not even eject. Don't know if its just manufacturer defects or they just didn't like my setup. I was told afterwards not to be using Blazers in my Dlask barrel. Something about them being ever so slightly larger than a regular .22LR.

Switched to American Eagle and never had a problem since.
 
I had my Ruger Mark II fire out of battery once. Pretty sure it was just dirty, I'd put a couple of bricks of the cheapest Remington LR's I could find through it that day and it was heavily fouled. Scary scene though - the magazine blew out the bottom and the hand that was lower on the grip got singed.

I don't think you can blame it on the ammo.
 
Bikeinxs got me thinking now. Maybe that chamber of yours is so dirty, or something obstructing complete closure,and it's is firing way out of battery. The ruger will fire way out of battery as anyone who owns one and wants to let the hammer fall on an unloaded chamber with no damage to the firing pin or chamber, can attest.:agree:
