Ruger .204 Mark II

You would be able to shoot heavier bullets in the Rem 700 therefore extenting the range out to say 1000 yards with 75 gr bullets. Try that with your .204:p
All kidding aside at ranges out to 300 yards the .204 may drift a little more in the wind but, hit a gopher with either one and it will be dead all the same.

204 is a faster flatter shooting cartridge for the first couple of hundred yards. Speed is important for "style points"... It loses effectiveness beyond about 350 yards, although I have made a couple of calm condition 400-450 yard kills on gophers. I have killed coyotes with it to 350 and they were dead before they hit the ground. 204 is under-appreciated for its yote-sized varmint capabilities.

If you want to kick it up a notch, a 22-250 is a better comparison

The both make 'em dead, the 204 makes a smaller hole.

not with a 1:12 twist you wont. my 700P wont even stabilize the 62gr. properly.

AFAIK remington just started making 1:9 twist .223s in the XCR Long Range and Compact Tactical but they cost a premium. i laughed my ass off when i saw it referred to a 'tactical style twist' in their promotional material :runaway:
what an innovation

The .204 has less recoil and noise. The 17HMR is one lil jazzed up short range gopher gun within 100, eh?
