Ever since I saw a show on 22 rimfire Steel Challenge I've wanted a "race" 22, no open sights and threaded for a compensator. From what I've seen my only option looks like a Browning with a different barrel but I don't know of anyone who can get extra Browning barrels that people can afford. I saw the Ruger advertised in Guns and Ammo and except for the lower rail lt's exactly what I'm looking for. So has anyone seen one? If it was at a non-sponsor please feel free to PM me with details. TC

As far as I can tell all semi-auto .22's (aside from 22 Lite) and GP100 revolvers from Ruger are sold out all across Canada.
You're looking at 2013 unfortunately.

OP, buy a used 22/45 with the 5.5" heavy barrel, remove the sights (they unscrew with no problems) and have a gunsmith thread the barrel to suit whatever compensator/brake you like. He can also chop the barrel a bit if you wanted it shorter. All recent Rugers are D&T'd for rails, so you can simply install a rail and optic as you please.

Now that I think about that, it sounds like a great winter project.:D

Thanks for the idea Mark. I didn't know the front sight was removable. TC

Last year around this time, FN Sports (the Ruger distributor) was not able to specifically get this model due to the threaded barrel and state department restrictions. This may have since changed however.

Apparently it has as Ellwood Epps had a new threaded barrel model with fixed sights. TC

Yeah, one screw straight down through. They are easily removable, so much so that it often requires a drop of blue loctite to keep that screw tight. You could pull the sight and then put a grub screw in to plug the hole, the same way Ruger plugs the rail holes when they are not being used.
