Ruger 22 sights

I just purchased my first firearm a Ruger. I have a scope to put on it but I would like to also use my open sights as well. However after I put the weaver mount on I can barely line up my sights. I had a hell of time even getting one of the filler's back in. Is there anything else i can use when i take the weaver mount off? i wouldn't mind getting apature sights for it either, just wondering what the best course of action would be, thanks
