I have heard and read in many publications about the older Ruger Blackhawks referred to as "flat tops" as having very desireable aspects mostly of which are the "XR-3" grip frames being better for ergonomics.Having just aquired one in a .45 Colt/A.C.P. convertible and also known as 3 screw models, the specimen I just got wears a 7 1/2" barrel, has the distinctive 3 screws and is the flat top design. It's in excellent condition and was wondering what kind of collective value it might have.I welcome any and all opinions as this one's a real jewel that is devoid of the safety conversion that Ruger offers free of charge on their web site.Ruger also states that the transfer bar conversion will not effect any collector value but I have been told quite the contrary to that as it is after all an alteration from factory original condition. The bore appears to not ever have been polluted with jacketed bullets or it was thoroughly and professionally restored(cleaned) throughout. It's in amazingly excellent condition appearance wise and mechanically as the action is very slick with a superb trigger.Once in a while a great find comes your way and it's hard to walk away from those once you've been bitten by the Ruger bug.
