I may have a chance to buy a Ruger 357 soon but I do not know any more about the pistol than that. The owner is a family member so I would like to offer him a far amount for it but I as of yet do not know the model number but I do have the following picture. I also know it has only fire half a box of ammo (It is in excellent shape) and it will come with the holster in the picture. What would such a pistol be worth. Thanks

$400-450 is a good range of prices for it. I place no value on a holster as I don't use one. Irregardless of value, any time a holster arrives with a pistol I throw it on the EE for $20 shipped.

To pay a higher price it should be stainless.
 
Brand new Blackhawks are around $650 in the stores if that helps out with a fair pricing.

It's not uncommon to find them for $450 to $500 in the EE or on consignment in shops.

I would not suggest you use that holster. It's got two things going against it that I can see. First is that there's at least one rivet which is exposed and which will drag on the gun as it's inserted and drawn. Second is the closed bottom end which tends to rub hard on the end of the barrel and wear out the blueing on the sides of the muzzle in short order.

I don't know if you know much about revolvers or not but this gun will also fire the softer hitting .38Spl in addtion to full power .357Mag. If you buy ammo instead of reloading you'll find that .38Spl is almost half the cost of .357.
 
It's a Ruger New Model Blackhawk 357 Magnum w/ a 6 1/2" barrel. With a known history from a family member an offer of $500 sounds fair to me. Blackhawks are built like tanks and I doubt if you will ever wear it out.

Like others pointed out, ditch the crap holster.
 
Well he said he only wanted $250 for it so I bought it. Plus I do not have to pay for shipping either. I may end up trading it plus cash for a glock 20 and then getting a .40 barrel to go with it.

Maybe I'm weird that way... but I would have a hard time 'flipping' a firearm for profit, when said firearm came from a family member...
 
I wasn't trying to make money I just really wanted a g20. I would have also had to sell my Sp01 too. I think for no I will be keeping it. After handling it for a bit I like the feel.
 
Save up for the G20. You simply do not trip over deals like this every other day. And the convertable models don't seem to be all that common. So if you did flip it you may well regret it later on. At the very least live with it for a few boxes of ammo and see how you and the gun fit.

And although you didn't say what relationship is of the family member it sounds like it's likely that he gave you a good deal with the idea of keeping the gun within the family. Flip it right away like this and you stand a good chance of alienating that side of the family tree.

I'd say that this Blackhawk is twice the gun that a G20 is but I'm pretty well a dyed in the wool revolver fan. So my opinion would be more than a little biased.... :D
 
I tried it out on the weekend. Shot some .38 special, 9mm and 357mag. They all ran fine. It felt a little weird at first since this is my first time shooting a revolver but I am getting used to it.
