I have owned one for years, and have never attempted to play with the trigger. Being a Ruger, and a semi it is set up to be functionally safe for all concerned especially Ruger. They have this paranoia about being sued.
I understand your pain, the trigger pull on mine is brutal as well, but it is a hunting rifle not a target rifle. When I am shooting at game with any rifle there are two things I never notice, the trigger pull and the recoil. Not to say they not important to accuracy. I just personally never notice it in the heat of moment. My suggestion would be to live with it.
