I have a Ruger .44 magnum carbine that I would like to replace the tube magazine spring in. I am wondering if anyone can offer advice on removal of the end plug of the mag tube to replace the spring? It doesn't screw off. It appears to maybe be crimped/swaged into the end of the mag tube. Is there anyone who can offer helpful suggestions on this?

I greatly appreciate any help.
Cheers

There are special punches for roll pins . You can use an allen key for punch held with locking plyers. Just be shure both ends are squared and are flat hitting straight down . I have also used links from machinery chains as starting drifts ( the male links ) . To hold your tubing you could use hard wood blocks by drilled out a groove . You may have to work it back and forth a little at a time to get it started . Best of luck !

What I would do in this situation is hit it some more to try to drive it out. Then watch a bunch of YouTube looking for answers. Then I'd probably hit it really hard. Then try to find the pieces on the garage floor to no avail. Then I would order new parts from numrich and call it a success!

Make yourself a starter punch, one with a tip that will fit inside the hole with the shoulder flat to engage the face of the pin. Once it's started, use a regular drift punch. Use a grooved block with a hole below the pin. Easy peasy!

Squirt some penetrating oil on it 5 or 6 times over a 24 hour period ; then follow all the above remedies.

Gently heat the end plug.
That's where it's stuck.
Then spray some lube on the outside of the exterior roll pin where the gaps are.
Hopefully the lube will get pulled into the pin bore of the plug.

Then girlie smack the pizz owt-oh it.................d:h:
