Hello all,
I am thinking about picking up a Ruger 77/22 with blued finish, 20" barrel and a walnut stock and was wondering if anyone has experience with this firearm?

Theres a mountain of information on this site about the 10/22 but very little for the 77/22.

Thanks for your interest.

I've had a couple over the years. They were both reasonably unfussy, and would shoot under an inch at 50 yards. One would average 3/4" or so with a few different loads. But neither was a real tack driver like a CZ is.

For the money I'd buy a CZ American and have the trigger tuned.

As Rick mentioned you would probably be better off with a CZ 452. From what I have seen the 77/22's are somewhat hit and miss. You might get a good shooter, you might not. I havn't seen a CZ that wouldn't shoot. Wish I could say the same about most other guns ;).

BTW, he asked about the 77, not the CZ. I own both, and depending what you are using it for, my 77 gets the nod more often for hunting than everything else. The mag design is much better, you can get 25 rounders, and the 3 position safety on the Ruger is much better than most other rimfires. Out of box accuracy for mine was ok, about an average of 5/8 to 3/4 at 50 yds. The fit and finish on the Ruger is excellent and if you so desire, there are some aftermarket parts for it. You will most likely want to rework the trigger, and a 30 dollar VQ sear cures the trigger pull. Here's a pic of mine with a Boyds stock. Good luck on whatever decision you make. Later.
