Hi Folks,

I am just beginning to load for this rifle; a Ruger 77/22 Hornet. What bulet weight am I likely to have good accuracy results with? I've got some W296 propellant in stock so I'll start with that.

Thanks for any tips - Jeff.

Jeff, in my latest Brno 465 hornet a very good load is the 35 gr Hornaday V-max with 12.5 296 powder in Re m brass with Win small rifle primers. 3075 FPS with good brass life. I partially size. Great gopher load.

I've tried em both, and don't really see any difference. I'm using winchester small pistol primers right now as I have a whack of them, and nothing else to use them up with

Sure, but it's not the best. Don't settle for something that's considerably less than optimal just because it's more convenient than getting the right thing

I had a set of Lee deluxe dies in .22 Hornet. I had a few problems with them. The collet neck die did not size the necks enough, I could push seated bullets into the case with my thumb. I had lots of problems with the seating die, about 1 in 8 or 9 cases would have a colapsed neck. I switched to a set of Forester benchrest dies and everything works great with them. I even use them on my Dillon 550, they work perfect.

hmmm, weird. I have tried a few different types of dies for the hornet, from RCBS to Forester to Lee, and none of them produced collapsed necks. I had heard that it was a problem with the Hornet though I've never experienced it.

I shoot and reload about 2000 Hornets a year, my 77/22 is my favourite gun :)

My Hornet is the "K" (improved) version, chambered in a BRNO ZKW 465. It absolutely loves Li'l Gun with anything I seat on top of it. My favorite primer is the Remington 6½, most consistent in my rifle. Regards, Eagleye.

I have had a few 465's, they are beautiful rifles. My current and keep forever 465 is a 1949 model. It has nice wood and shoots great, the only way to improve it would be to make it a "k" hornet. It shoots so well I don't want to risk it.

Does your "k" hornet still feed well in the 465? I shoot a lot of hornet to , enough that I do it on my Dillon 550.

My K-Hornet feeds just great without any magazine modifications either. I was a bit apprehensive before I did the rechamber, but I have been shooting it for 3 years now with the K improvement, and don't regret a thing. Picked up 100+ fps and accuracy is as good or better than before. Regards, Eagleye.
