When the 77/44 first came out, it was blued/walnut only. I had one; Ruger had to replace the stock when it split at the tang after very few rounds, and they took their time doing it. It was a lovely little gun, but I sold it because I just couldn't find an accurate load for it. Three-inch groups @ 100 yards was its best effort.
I now have a 77/357 stainless/synthetic, and it is a gem. Almost any load will be inside of 2 inches @ 100, and some (mostly hotter .357 loads) will hover around 1.25MOA. It's my DSR (Designated Skunk Rifle). It gets the nod for any small-to-medium pest around the house, and has completely replaced the .22mag for this purpose. I like it as-is, but if I ever find a nice walnut or laminate stock for it I'll probably grab it.
