I just picked up one of Rugers little 44 mag carbines. Do any of you fellow GunNutz have one of these? Should be a little thumper in the bush. Mine comes in at 5.7 lbs on the scales. All I have to do now is find a load that really makes her bark.

Try a 300 grain Hornady XTP or a good hard cast with 21 grains of 296 and you can clobber any moose that walks.

I have one..at 100 yrds it is not that accurate...50 to 75 yrds it shoots around 1" to 2".....so that is good enough for what I use it for...I use 240 and 300gr xtp's with H110, both shoot about the same.

Bought one last summer, dropped a running button buck at about ten yards with one shot to the heart using hornady lever-evolution ammo, they are light fast handling guns, well suited to the bush. Won't part with mine. :D

I had her out for a test run today. Ran 50 rds of 240gr cast and a stiff load of W296. My groups came in around 1.5 to 2" at 50 yards. I'll have to try it at 100 yrds and see how much the groups open up. Tons of fun and cheap to shoot. Can't ask for much more.

I picked one up last fall and was thinking of 265gr FTX handloads through it, but havn't seen any load data for the 265gr FTX in the 44 mag. Any of you guys have any info that might be usefull?

I had one for several years, and tried hard to get it to shoot, but it just wouldn't do better than about three inches at 100. I loved the feel and handling of the gun, and might try another one someday.

ruger 44 mag... Known all over northern Ontario. Usually refered to as a "gangrene gun".

Although, I would still love to have one. They do the job they are designed for very well, a quick handling, SHORT RANGE, semi auto with some decent thump. Most camps I have been to, the .44 has a bad name. I think it is probably due to too many off hand shots at running, out of range deer. Maybe I'm wrong.

I like mine. 1.5-2" groups at 100 yards with Hornady Leverevolution 225 grain bullets not so good with the Winchester White Box. I'm just starting to load for it and think .430" bullets may be a better choice.

My only complaint with was the heavy factory trigger pull. A Volquartsen sear reduced the pull weight although there is a tiny bit of creep remaining.

The 77/44 should be seen in context. It is at least as accurate as a .44 magnum lever action and offers a lot of stopping power in a rimfire-sized package. I use mine for predator control on our property but it wouldn't be my first choice for moose or anything beyond 100 yards.

I had one and was very disappointed with the accuracy, also the mag failed on the first range visit. I really regret selling my Ruger 44 semi autos. They used be to fairy easy to find and inexpensive.

They are nice short range thumpers intended for medium skinned game, certainly strong enough to handle the many abuses the .44 mag cartridge is given.
I'd even have one in each colour were they made in left hand but I guess I'll have to find a left hand 788 in .44 Rem. Mag first. Yeah right !

Its perfect for what I want it for. I cast my own, so its dirt cheap to shoot :) Just need to get my hands on a LBT WFN mould and I'll be set. There's nothing better then the sound of a big flat nose bullet hitting the target!

Got mine this year compare with my other 44 mag that are all 1in 38 twist, this 1 in 20 twist really improve the caliber, Ruger 77 44 at under 7 pounds with optics an a full mag is my perfect deer rifle for my woods and IT is very accurate, any loads will print under 2inchs and with Fiocchi Extrema 200 grs it will do a ragged hole all day... Cheers. JP.
