Ruger 77/44 opinions wanted

I'm considering one of these for use as a short-range brush gun. Anyone have one? What do you think of it?

Had the old 77/44 and a 96/44... both were excellent short range (maxish 100 m) hunting rifles. Buy, shoot, enjoy...

Not the most accurate gun I ever owned, but nice and compact. I always suspected that it was because of the rear bolt lockup. I've owned several of the older semi auto's and they all shot much better, wish I hung on to one of them.

I had one for a while--accuracy was adequate but i found a marlin .44 lever did the job better.

I would say no, its a handgun round, the 96 would be better, or a 92 Browning

Just curious but why do you think a bolt action would be inferior to a lever action in the same handgun chambering?

Bolt actions tend to have an accuracy edge over the lever actions.

A guy in our camp uses a 44 Ruger semi auto. The hollow point bullets exit about half the time. Deer are very dead.

Good short range caliber. Don't know about that rifle.
