Was able to put some loads with 225gr - 240gr - 300gr - 355gr bullets with AA#9, Lilgun and AA1680 powder together and get out and shoot them today was raining when I headed out with my dogs but it started to clear up when I headed up into the mountains.

I recently purchased a 16" barreled Ruger American in 450 Bushmaster installed a Leupold VX2 2-7x33mm long range reticle scope with Leupold PRW rings.

I wasn't shooting for accuracy more to check velocities but I have to say I am very happy with the grouping I was getting with the different loads and bullet weights I used Win small rifle primers.

I set up my LabRadar doppler radar unit to read ranges at muzzle - 25 yards and 50 yards I set up my target @ 60 yards .

225gr Hornady FTX with 41grs Lilgun
2453 2303 2160fps
2451 2301 2160fps
2441 2293 2151fps

I put together a reduced recoil load for my wife to shoot

225gr Hornady FTX with 34grs AA#9
2123 1984 1857fps
2029 1894 1770fps
2090 1955 1827fps

240gr XTP-Mag 40grs Lilgun
2396 2224 2064fps
2462 2283 2123fps
2373 2203 2051fps

300gr XTP-Mag 41grs AA1680 I really don;t know what to say about this load....
1670 1580 1504fps
1745 1649 1561fps
2295 2130 1995fps wow what happened?
1789 1689 1605fps

355gr WLNGC's 31grs Lilgun
1852 1738 1638fps
1844 1740 1648fps
1827 1723 1626fps

I still have 405gr WLNGC's and 535gr Ranger Rick WLNGC's to work up loads for this rifle/cartridge combo just need to decide on starting loads for each before I attempt it.

As to accuracy like I said I was not shooting for accuracy I had set up my LabRadar on the hood of my pickup and just rested my elbows on the hood so the muzzle was high enough to register on the LabRadar with that said I have to say I'm very happy with the accuracy I was getting the 225 - 240gr bullets went mostly into one ragged hole the 300gr due to their reduced velocity had close to the same impact as the 355gr loads which was appr 5" lower than the 225gr loads.

Coming out of the mountains I saw at 190 yards ahead of me out on a logging road landing a stump appr 1' in diameter I was shooting downhill so put the first LR reticle dot on the spot on the log I was aiming at the 225gr FTX bullet hit within 1" max of my aiming point to say I am starting to like this light weight thumper combo is an understatement.

I do have one issue that is the mags and the feeding I had maJor issues trying to feed the 240gr XTP-Mag loads they jammed the top round making it difficult to even get the mag out to clear the jam I feel these mags should have a spacer at the back of the mag that will hold the bullets further forward as well as they need a heavier spring.

I was not happy with the factory mag, putting it in the MDT chassis and using the MDT AICS pattern magazines solved that issue

I tried the 450 BM rounds in a 308 MDT and a AIC mag they still sit way back but the spring tension is greater and it takes 4 rounds instead of only 3.

I was on both Magpul's and MDT's site this morning looking at their stocks trying to decide what to do = for now I'll stick with the factory stock/2 factory mags but as soon as I have extra cash I'll start looking again.

Have repair work being done and front window replaced on my SUV today Sat night our dishwasher gave up the ghost so either getting it fixed or buying a new one have to wait for the stock probably buy more 450 Bushmaster brass though.

I could induce a jam every time with the stock magazine by slowly closing the bolt, with the MDT I can not. Yes the round sits further back but the rounds are better retained and already in the chamber before the back of the cartridge is fully stripped from the lips of the magazine.

I was coon-fingering one of those at Cabela's recently. Very appealing little gun, I'm looking forward to reading more about your testing.

I just pulled both my factory mags apart was simple just slipped a thin screwdriver in the slot down the back of the mag and pushed a tab down I then just slipped the bottom plate of the mag back a bit then popped the spring/follower out.

The spring looks exactly like the springs used on hinged floor plate model rifles I stretched the spring out then popped it all back together pushed the lock tab back into place to lock it there is now a slightly heavier feel hopefully enough to make a difference.

I also see that it could be possible to mod the mag by grinding off the back appr 1/4" off the follower then screwing a plate/block on the rear of the mag body this would keep the bullets seated further forward in the mag preventing the bullets from jamming.

Before modding a mag I'm thinking of using a slightly heavier crimp so there is nothing that will grab as the bullet is pushed forward with the bolt.

Thanks for getting me to dig this info up was a good idea to compare them.

These are not top Freedom Arms 454 Casull loads these loads were designed for my 6 shot 4.25" barreled Ruger Super Redhawk.

Ruger made the 454 Casull SRH cylinders with a super tough but slightly stretchy metal it can handle the top FA loads but with the cylinder stretching when fired it would lock my fired brass in the cylinder so my loads were worked up until the cases had slight extraction issues I then backed off my load 1/2 gr.

20” LSI Puma M92 454 Casull Data...

240gr XTP-Mag 38grs H110 1) 2258 2) 2327 3) 2316

300gr XTP-Mag 30grs H110 1) 1858 2) 1821

300gr Speer Gold Dot 31grs H110 1) 1890 2) 1897

360gr C/P WLNGC’s 27grs Lil-gun 1) 1848 2) 1846 3) 1828

395gr C/P WLNGC’s 24grs Lil-Gun 1) 1647 2) 1642 3) 1650

Comparing this data with my 450BM data I now see a starting load for my 405gr WFNGC's I wanted to try AA1680 though but will stick to Lilgun for now.

Going to call Rusty Wood Trading Company today and order another 100 450BM brass he has Starline in stock for $10 less/50 than Hornady brass also shows he stocks or can bring in the 395gr WLNGC's I used in my 454 Casull loads may have to buy a box of them as well.

I have new on the shelf one Accurate Mags and one Magpul PMag that take 308 Win the accurate mag accepts 4 rounds the Pmag will take 5 rounds of 450BM the bullets fit and push out way better in these mags over the Ruger 3 round factory mags.

Issue is I bought this rifle to be a cheap beater truck gun didn't want to put anymore money into it than I originally spent on it.

I would like it to have a folding stock though and to have 5 reliable feeding rounds instead of only 3 questionable feeding rounds would be a bonus but I mostly hunt with single shots now so 3 rounds is already a major step up just wish MDT made a OD green LSS stock I drive by their location at least once a week right now may have to stop in and see exactly what they have and if they will do an OD green stock up for me...

I contacted Rusty Wood Trading Company Friday morning and ordered 100 Starline 450 Bushmaster brass and 100 .452" Cast Performance 395gr WLNGC's order arrived this afternoon not bad considering today is BC's Family Day holiday.

I've been messing around with overall length of my 450 BM loads I can seat the bullets out at least 1/8" further out.

I'm going to load some up first chance I get I'm also thinking with loading long I get two things done = I'll be lowering pressures slightly so may be able to get higher velocities with a bit more powder but most importantly I'll be getting around the mag issue.

Man I bought one Sunday. Took their savage safety trigger thingy off. Shortened trigger spring. (2.2 pounds)Relieved stock a bit more. Took the two boxes of horned black I got clearance at 32 a box. Proceeded to pop out a few .6 inch groups at 70. Stroke bolt fast as I want. Fine little frigger this is

Update finally got the rifle to the gun club and shot it out to 200 yards.

With my 225gr 2450fps loads zeroed 1" high @ one hundred yards holding the first LR dot down on the 200 yard target bullets hit 3 - 4" low.

I am definitely starting to like this rifle/cartridge/scope combo plan on working up longer COL loads even thought about bedding the factory stock and been looking at aftermarket stocks and mags but I really don't want to spend any time or more money on it.

Took a shot at 10 yards with the 225gr FTX @ 2450fps into a fir tree that had fallen across the logging road I was driving down yesterday had to cut it away anyway so figured may as well check this bullet out.

Here are the results of the shot bullet blew apart as it traveled 5" into the tree this bullet is designed for 45 Colt velocities so is doing 400 - 800fps faster out of the 450 Bushmaster I'm thinking even though it blew up it would be devastating on deer or bear.

Next time out I'll shoot into some logs at different distances 50 - 100 - 150 yards.

I also took a shot at 190 yards dead on with the first dot down on my long range reticle and 275 yards hit just a couple inches high when using the 2 dot down both shots if I hit the lungs/heart would have killed a deer easily but if the shots are close I'll have my 355gr WFNGC's loaded.

I also have the Ruger American Ranch. Pretty much the same set up with a 2-7x33 Leupold. Love this combo.
I have shot mine so far with factory ammo only. First 3 shot group at 100 yds after sight in measured .720 outside. Very impressed with this cartridge so far. Have some 200 gn FTX I am trying and 275 Barnes XPB(30548)because no one has the 450 TSX bullets.
I shot a dried 6"round cedar log about 4' long at 100 yards with the factory ammo. Bullet went in about 13" before stopping and threw the chunk of wood about 3-4' back from where it started. Bullet expanded as it should and formed a perfect rolled back ball. The deer I shot with the factory ammo was bruised pretty bad. Shot in the chest straight on at 40 yards just off center and bruised into the shoulder. I think it may have blown a chunk of bone that way.

They never made the tsx for the 450. Remington was set to release it in their hog hammer line of ammunition, but it was never produced

Well I hate to correct people but you are mistaken. The do make the TSX bullets for the 450. They even went as far as to call it the 450 Bushmaster on their site.
http://www.barnesbullets.com/bullets/tsx/

I spoke directly with Barnes, said not available/never made them. This would have to have been something that happened in the last couple months. Will have to call them again

Not sure if this helps or not.
Here is an email from Chase Young at Barnes for reference. I asked about maximum velocity in the 460 XPB bullets. Email was from 4/22/2018

460 S&W -275 XPB (30548)
What is the max velocity these can be shot at? I would like to use them for deer and possibly moose in a 450 Bushmaster. These are available at a local dealer. I don't seem to be able to find the 450 Bushmaster TSX anywhere in Canada.
Thanks for your help, love the bullets I have tried so far.

Scott,
Due to the construction of the all copper Barnes bullet you can shoot them as fast as possible yet retain near 100 percent weight retention. The six petals that expand out and back are very strong on our pistols bullets. As for the 275 gr TSX bullet for the Bushmaster the dealers up there must not be ordering them. You should let them know that they need to order some.
Thanks, Chase

The 460 S&W 275 gn XPB bullets work just fine and are accurate. Haven't shot game with them yet. They are pretty close to the 450 Bushmaster TSX . I believe they will expand at lower velocities than the TSX bullets do. I have reloaded them to the factory ammo length so far. I shot a few at an AR 400 plate and they left an impression of the center hole in the steel. The 250 gn FTX I shot just splatter
