I bought my oldest son a B-day gift today at our local CTA store. In 7mm-08, blued, synthetic, 18 inch barrel. He mounted a 2x-7x Redfield scope on it with Burris low rings, lapped in the rings with the Wheeler kit and leveled the scope and bore sighted it. All we had on hand was some Hornady lite magnums. He took a number of shots and tuned it in to about an inch and a 1/4 group or so. Anyone have any experience with factory ammo and recipes for reloads for this type of rifle? Thanks in advance for any tips.

I've got one in 308 I don't find the muzzle blast bad it jumps off the bags all right but no biggy. t-d sounds like yours is a shooter so you probably won't have to worry about this but on mine the forstock was touching the barrel on the port side, found some other guys on the net with similar deal I opened up the barrel channel an 1/8" or so all along and a bit on the other side with 80 grit sand paper by hand. I wrapped an appropriate sized deep socket from the tool box with sand paper and opened up the round for the barrel too so its good and free floated now. Then I went over everything with 320 grit to smooth everything up it turned out well that polymer is easy to sand. So so groups before shrunk noticeably. I also filled the hollows in the forstock with epoxy to stiffen it up.

Other than that its a good little gun didn't like factory win 150gr. not bad with Federal fusion 150 factory at a bit over an inch. My handloads with 150 ttsx and 168 amax are both easily MOA.

I picked up a 243 from Cgfns here.
Had the opportunity to fire 4 shots before making the deal.
Factory 80gr. psp,s 3 shots around 3/4" the first on a clean bbl was around 1 1/4" away.
I think it will be a good shooter once I load my own.
The muzzle blast is very impressive.
A nice light weight rifle.

I am interested in the Ruger American Predator in 308 with an 18' bull barrel!
I don't think these are in Canada yet but I have heard rumor that by April they may be showing up?

Yeah mine is all weather I like the dull finish compared to some to it. Sure handy these little buggers after adding a bit of weight to the stock with low talleys and a vx2 3-9x40 mine weighs 6 lbs 10 1/2 oz.

Salty,
Your 308 Is the 18" bbl?
6 10/16#s that leaves weight for a little bipod or a large one.
Anyone have any problems with theirs? I keep hearing they are tack drivers.
Aside from a little stock dressing.

yes 18 inch bbl. Knocks some speed off I'm getting about 2700 with 150 gr and 2500 with 165 gr bullets but sure makes a handy little package. Its a poor man's sub compact. lol

I have the compact in .223 and it seems to like anything I stick in it. I didn't have a lot of time to really get it dialed when we got all this $h**ty weather. Spring is not to far off I hope, and the date on the calendar doesn't mean a thing by the sounds of it. Another load coming tomorrow night and Sunday, 20-45 cm!
