Ruger American Compact scope choices

I would like to know what scopes are being used with the center fire Ruger American Compact rifles, since it would seem desirable to use a shorter length scope, such as the Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 which are 11.7" inches long. I have a friend who has a Leupold VX3 1.75-6x32 on a Ruger American Compact in 7-08 which is again a quite compact scope at 11.4 inches long. The image below is the Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 with a BDC reticle on a 223 Ruger American Compact. I am looking to put a scope on a 7-08 compact, but do not want to spend as much for a VX3 and are looking for possible alternatives to the Vortex Diamondback 2-7 or 3-9.

For me RAR Compact means relative short range say under 300-350 yds..
I plan to put either a fixed power 4X33 or 6X36 on my Compact 308 when it gets here..
Most ideal for would be a loopy 4X33 with LR dots if they are available in the 4X..

I put Bushnell DOA 600 4 -12x40 on my non compact Ruger Americans in 243 and 270. Mainly because I got them at 50% off.

I use VX3 2.5-8 x36 on my compact rifles....have one on my ruger .338 Fed, another on my RFB, yet another on one of my Model 7's.

Buy a VX III used...there seem to be enough around
