Hi,

I would like to buy a rifle for my wife, and the ruger american gen 2 predator looks like the perfect one for her. It has cheek riser, cerakote and muzzle brake. Most likely will be in 308.

I have been reading issues regarding feeding. Does anybody here had the chance to try it out? any comments about it?

I'd suggest you go on the USA Ruger site and search there. Rugerforum .net under the Bolt-action section. I have a couple Rugers and go there often to follow them. Just don't have a Predator.

Thanks, it looks like a very common issue... The only problem is similar rifles with cheek riser, muzzle brake are on the 1900 CAD... :(

Time to move on into something better...

I have a Gen-1 American in .223, with the rotary magazine (which on mine holds 6-rounds) and with 'good ammo' in the 70g+ range I can get MOA out to 200 - all my range has. The G-2 Americans can be retro-fitted with an AICS magazine well, I understand - Mine is too old. And I have a Ruger Ranch (2022 mfg) in 7.62x39 that also does MOA with good ammo. The only 'Con' is it uses the bespoke Mini-30 magazine which is quite pricey - ca $60+ CDN - and more if tariffs go thru  . Maybe you could go with one of these.

I've not had a Ruger yet that wouldn't feed. Gen 1 with rotary mag, the newer standard double stack mag, AR mag, Mini 14 mag, or AI mag. One 6.5 Grendel with a AR mag was a bit rough.

The only Gen II I've used were AR mags and Mini 14 mags but they worked great. I doubt the AI mag versions wouldn't.

I have had both a Gen I and now have a Gen II.
Both STANAG and both fed/feed without issue.
I think the 308 would be AICS?? so maybe that's different but one of the major focuses that Ruger had in improving the Gen I was feeding issues and I have heard from others that they seem to have fixed the issues identified in Gen I.

Over the years, I have owned several RA's and they have all been accurate and reliable so maybe I just got lucky.

Thank you for your feedback.

I had a gen 2 ruger ranch in 556/223. Altered the mag well to also accept the MXR 20 round magazine. You could buy just the mag well and convert over to aics, but those mags are even more expensive. The MXR mags are the cheapest of all the 223.

Never a loading issue at all even with the mxr mags.

isnt the action the same as Gen 1?
I think they are, but they altered the feed ramp, and went to different magazines to take care of the earlier feeding issues.

That said, I just remembered I used to have a 7-08 in a cheaper ruger, with the rotary magazine. Nothing but feeding issues, and when my daughter had trouble on a nice buck with feeding it was clearly time to get rid of it. Went to a browning midas for really not much more and never anymore issues.

Probably related to the mags.
Rotary worked ok for a while, but would expand and cause jams, weak springs were also an issue.
Staggered mags, the new ones, have a pretty squared up mouth. When I got one I tried dummies through it and they would hang up on that lip. Couple mins with a file to put a little bevel on it solved that. Mag spring still weak so a couple calculated bends to get more tension solved that. No problems yet.

I love the Browning and Ruger rotary mag but wouldn't trust or use them in the cold.
Over on rokslide forum they do in-depth cold weather tests on different actions and triggers and the X-bolt rotary mags choke in sub-zero, Rugers do the same in my experience.
