Another question that I had trouble selecting a subforum for, but what is the word on the Ruger Bushmaster in that calibre? As seen in Canada, it seems to be a Ruger Ranch Rifle with a 5 shot magazine instead of a 10 but anyway what are the CGN reviews?

What exactly are you asking about? Ruger makes the American bolt action in .450 Bushmaster and also .308... or are you referring to the RPR (Ruger Precision Rifle - bolt action)?

There is also a sticky on the Gunsite Scout rifles if that is what you are looking for, just search "Ruger Gunsite Scout"

I'm calling it what Cabelas and therefore Ruger is calling it, as I said seems to be a Ranch or as you say a Scout rifle with a 5 rd magazine.

That is NOT what they are calling it... that is a cartridge option in that model, ie... cartridge options are .450 Bushmaster, or .308 Winchester etc... the rifle is not called a "Bushmaster."

Also, the American "Ranch" and the "Scout" are two different rifles... both are bolt action rifles but at completely different price points, the American rifle is an entry level firearm, the Scout is a definitive step up in quality and price.

From the Ruger website....there are seven options in rifles chambered for the .450 Bushmaster cartridge, there are no rifles called a "Bushmaster." One "AR-556", one "No.1", three "American" rifles, and two "Scout" rifles.

Which of these are you referring to?

Well it was a labelled as a 'Bushmaster' in the store, thereby causing my confusion. Looking at the Cabelas site as below, the American is indeed the same rifle I was looking at. And it comes up when you search for 'bushmaster.' I guess it was a confusion between the bushmaster .450 round and the ranch style rifle, which is available in it. But I want a .308 which the site says is available only in Canada.

So what about the Ruger American rifle? This is the last day they're on sale. Always liked the idea of the Ranch rifle concept but I think I remember some negative comments about the most recent attempts to create one.

Ive heard about some magazine problems with the American but otherwise they seem OK. Ive not carried on in the field.

Most of the budget priced rifles have some issues, I guess what matters is if theyre crippling like the ol' Remington 710

Issue resolved by my arrival at Cabelas only to find they have converted to curbside service only. Oh yes I'm going to buy an unseen and unreturnable $700 item on that basis, 'fraid not. It will have to wait on another sale. But at least it would have resolved Cabelas annoying practice of their staff walking the gun out and only handing it over at the door, never liked that.,
