I'm in the market for a new .22 bolt action and was looking close at the ruger American rimfire with wood stock. The cheapest I could find was 579 in Canada. At this price point, what do you guys figure? Worth the money or should I stick with a cz 455? The mags are drawing me in to the rar but I'm already familiar with the quality and accuracy of the 455. I'm stuck on the wood stock so the cheaper plastic stock rar is out.

I have the Ruger American Rimfire. Good gun, put techsights on it and its grouping nicely within 3/4in at 50 yards, prolly get a bit tighter with a better shooter behind the gun. Mags are definitely a plus, but mine is rather picky whether its OEM ruger mags or aftermarket, where the latter doesn't seat proper.

Haven't had any experience with CZ .22's (Hope to change that someday) but I am very happy with the rifle at least.

I have a CZ Standard and a RAR. The ruger shoots better with open sites. However I have short arms and the CZ fits me better. They are both very accurate. I let my son use the RAR, he's a big fella, and he can knock the balls off a fly at 25 yards with the RAR.

I had a RAR, seemed more picky about the ammo you fed it accuracy wise.
I like the cz 455 I have now, if only because it's a much better looking rifle.

I really think you need to try them both. If unable, I'd go cz.

Metal finish is better on the RAR rimfires. 10 round mag fits flush.

You can also mount scopes much lower, with a much wider variety of rings and bases.

I have 4 Rimfire Ruger Americans. Including a wood stock 22LR, Regular stock in 22LR, 22 mag and 17HMR

They all shoot very well, all rimfires are somewhat particular regarding ammo

Trigger is easy to adjust. Mines just about 2lbs and crisp

I used to own

CZ Scouts

CZ 452 22 Mag

CZ 452 FS in 17HMR

CZ 452 Ultra 22LR

CZ 453 in 17 HMR

CZ 455 American in 22LR and 22 Mag

CZ455 FS in 22LR and 17HMR

Don't miss the CZ

Wow sounds like we god a bum ruger for sure. Hers is about 1.5-2" at 50 yards. Finish is nice but working the bolt sounds like a cheap zipper.

I'd take my 452's any day of the week

ive got both a RAR (that i got when they first made it up here for $315) and a CZ American 452.

for what i paid for them the RAR is about half the price and shoots just about as good, but ive only ever put CCI Blazers down them both.
id assume that if i started running better tuned ammo the CZ would pull ahead.

but for what i do 1" at 50 is just fine.

so for me it came down to price and half the price is half the price, eh?
granted the CZ does have some nice wood.
