Ruger American-trigger question

I have a new Ruger American in .308. It is my first newly purchased firearm in decades for me...so what is this trigger release? What is it for, how does it work...and is it something I have to know/use? There is absolutely no mention of its function in the manual and YT has no info either.

Looks like a knock-off of the Savage Accu-Trigger. (feels like it, too - on my .308 ruger american)

It's a safety feature. I think the theory is that if you'd drop your gun while cocked and the safety is off, it won't fire. The safety blade has to be squeezed first and the then the trigger before the gun will fire. Personally, I'm indifferent to this feature and believe it's one of those lawyer mandated things.

I understand the concept but why is the item in question not even mentioned in the instructions apart from being ID'd in the diagram. You would think they would mention it is a safety device that should not be tampered with.
Also this is the first and only rifle with the threaded barrel for a suppressor. I used this rifle last week in Texas and had a suppressor attached ( not mine) ...not much of a difference in my opinion.
Also this was bought in the US and resides there for my use. A similar model is available in Canada but I don't see the threaded barrel option in any pics nor is it mentioned in the descriptions. So is there a Ruger American model for Canada?

Pretty much this. Got a 243 Compact American a while back that had an ok trigger once adjusted. Ended up with another one in 308 that wouldn't adjust at all, took the screw right out and no spring in it at all. No hope for this one unless I throw a Timney in it, but the rifle ain't worth a Timney lol.
At least in the Savage the blade is easy to remove if someone takes a notion, I did it with one of my bench guns, but honestly didn't see any real world difference so put it back in.
I'm so use to 2 stage triggers I just feel it's like one of those.
They are also pretty consistent, from rifle to rifle they all feel pretty much the same and easy to adjust. I prefer simple open triggers like the Savage and older Win M70 to boxed triggers like the Ruger.

I fit a Timney on my RAR in 450 BM and removed the blade safeties on my 2 other RAR's (350 Legend, 300 BLK) and replaced the trigger springs with Yodave units.
All 3 rifles now have smooth 2.5 lb. pulls which be fine fer me.

Removed the blades in my rimfires and my 243 compact.
I could not get the pull to the 2.5# that I prefer so a spring change and the screw adjusted and
now I have the trigger that I like.
I am the only one to use my rifles and that works for me.
 
The American bolt is fun to take apart and get back together again. Done a few without the "tool" Anarchy sells...wee bit of cursing to get it back together when it snaps closed off my screwdriver lol.
I'd like to get one of the aluminum bolt shrouds, but not at the price they sell them for here.... brutal.
