Hello all,

Any folks have experience with the Ruger Bearcat? They seem to be hard to come by in Canada - new or used. Are they not popular due to their smaller size? Or perhaps folks just prefer the single six? I have never handled one but thought they would at least be a good starter gun for kids. I have a chance to get one so any thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

Last gun show I was at, a fellow was trying to sell a set , but he wanted new price for them and they where 12-6 so they have to be cheap.
Quality wide , O.K.
Ruger came out with new model that where restricted, but they are small.
For kids they are great, but check the status of it.

I’ve had one for half a century and children, grandchildren, friends, and neighbours have thoroughly enjoyed it.

That is great to hear and the intended use I would have for it - starter gun for the kids. Also great to hear that it has withstood the test of time! Thanks.

I have a Prohib 12-6 rebarreled to a Restricted 4 1/2", will be going on the EE in a few days
I panic bought but since have found a nice Single Six

They're great little revolvers, I regret selling mine. Definitely small statured, hard for large-handed people to shoot well. But miles easier for smaller handed people to handle.

There were plenty of the 4.2" barrel versions imported into Canada, blued and stainless. Not nearly as common as the other Ruger single action 22 revolvers of course. Jump on it if you see one!

For scale, with a 5.5" Pietta 1873 SAA clone:

Too small for my hands to be comfortable to shoot.

NAA.

I fondled a stainless restricted model a couple years back. I wanted it but the thing was just too small. I have a Heritage Rough Rider that reminds me of it a lot. For only $250 I was fine with it not fitting very well though. Having 9 instead of 6 and the ability to use WMR ammunition is nice too. Quality is not comparable of course...

Thanks - kids are excited. I have now managed to snag 2 Bearcats. One original model from the 60's and one New Model. Great for the 2 younger ones. Bearcats sure are hard to find and look forward to actually getting them in the mail one of these days. Oldest one gets to choose between Ruger Wrangler and Heritage Rough Rider. We are all excited to get out to the range and make some memories cowboy style.

I think older ones have the aluminum alloy frame with brass trigger guard and no transfer bar. New model have steel frame and transfer bar. And yes - saw a few prohib Bearcats here and there but hard to find restricted ones - especially older.
