Picked up a nice Blackhawk. Grip a little small was contemplating a Bisley conversion, not sure if feasible due to cost and availability etc. Thoughs?

HI; I used to buy a Bisley firearm and the whatever gun and cal and swamped out to the Bisley and sold the other gun. So what if I lost 50 bucks, cheap way to get the gun the way I desired. BUT Now!

What caliber is it? Are you going to be shooting heavy loads? Have you shot a lot of SAA revolvers?

First blackhawk (.357) I ever tried my first thought was "the grip is too small)..... then I learned how to shoo it with a 2 finger strong grip and the pinky wrapped around the bottom of the grip.

Full Bisley conversion would be grip frame, grips and hammer I believe, don't see why you couldn't just do the grip and frame though if you don't mind the look.

If I was going to do a frame conversion for a blackhawk I'd get a super blackhawk frame as it is a slightly longer grip but still the "plowhandle" style that I prefer.

Another easier but ugly option is an aftermarket rubber grip.

Yes yes no and probably. Do you know where I can get Bisley parts. It’s for a Blackhawk.357 thanks.

5 answers to 3 questions is a new record for me... :)
Here's another, Have you tried a Bisley grip?

Brownells used to ship grip frames, otherwise you could try who ever took over for Snapshots as the Ruger parts people. I think it might have been MD Charlton?

BISLEY; shot many cal Bisley Blackhawks. Transferred 4 sets, must use trigger also.
When doing transfers there is a need to stay in the same prefix number serials or close to it. As the grip and frame will/ may be oversized, like 1/4 inch to high and stick out above the frame or slant off to the side and need to be ground down to match the frame. The screws all lined up and went in tight with no grip to frame gaps.
Never bought aftermarket kit as the cost was more then a transfer.

Is the Bisley an improvement to the plow handles? I mean, cowboys have been using plow handled guns for over a hundred years now?

Bisley is a British target oriented grip, I think most people just don't know how to hold a single action traditional plow handle and they try to get all three fingers around the grip instead of 2.

My favorite Ruger plow handle is the slightly larger one that they use on the Super Blackhawk Hunter model.
