I was out shooting a couple New Model Blackhawks I have and the little pin on the front of the rear sight was working loose. I watched it and made sure I did not loose it but this isn't good. What is the proper way to fix this? I was shooting loads that were a little on the hot side I guess to be honest.

The best fix for your Ruger is a Rough Country Sight from Bowen Classic Arms, I bought one when the rear sight on my SBH fell apart. These sites are extremely rugged, and rather than a screw and spring adjustment for windage, the weak link, the Bowen sight uses opposing screws for windage adjustments. So to adjust for windage, you back off one screw and advance the other.

Blue locktite after you sight it in..
I'd try blue loctite as well but the pin he's referring to is not involved in sighting in. It's the pin that holds the rear sight and allows it to pivot up and down.
My SP 101 is the same. I just push it back when I notice it shift out.

I seem to notice it right away but I think even if it did pop loose on one side it would jam up a bit from the spring pressure and I'd definitely notice it.
If I was carrying the gun around a lot in a holster I'd definitely want it secured a bit better and most likely with the sights Boomer suggests if it was a defensive gun.
If it's a solid wire pin poke it out and either put a small and slight kink into the wire or with a hammer slightly flatten one end. Either way will hold the wire tightly in place when you put it back in and tap it into place.
Worked great on a couple of my rugers....
