I recently acquired my father's Ruger compact .270. It has a shorter than average length of pull (under 13") and a 16.5" barrel. He lived in an area where ranges for deer hunting were rarely more than 150-200 yards so the velocity loss was not as big a factor as it might be for me (I live in Saskatchewan and shots of medium sized game can often stretch out to 300 yards. Anyone have a similar rifle with a short barrel? What kind of ammo works best for you and what are your ballistics like?
