Ruger Compact 7-08 .270 .260 .243

Hello all I am new here. I am looking to pick up rifle for my wife. Something small, light w/not to much recoil. What do you think of the Ruger Compact?
What else would you suggest?

Any of those calibers will work well,the 270 is a long action so I dont think you will find it in a compact. I have been looking for and researching the same sort of rifle and I do not think you will have a problem with the Ruger compact however it was not for me as it just did not feel right, it was tiny. What I did was I ordered a new or at least rereleased in 2011 Rem model 7 synthetic in 260 20"barrel 6.25lb .
The compact you are refering to may be the ideal size for your wife or smaller shooters. Also Savage says they will be coming out with their lightweight hunter series in a short action with an advertised weight of 5.5lb 20" barrel, they show it on their website

Well I am not the biggest fan of savage.
I do own just 1.
So the savage is outnumbered by Tikka's and Sako's
and out classed by my Cooper.

But savage is offering this in a 260 as well;)
Good move.

Yea I almost ordered that Savage in the 260 but decided to go with the Rem 7 as it seems to have a good rep as well as the store and sales rep (Vanderhoof BC) I bought it from has a very good reputation.Cheaper than the Savage as well
