Ruger Compact Magnums , any users ....

I think the RCM have even less chance of survival then the SAUM.

That is probably closer to the truth than you can imagine and its really too bad.
I bought a 338 RCM when they landed in Canada, dies and brass were not yet available.
However, thanks to a nomadic Tibetan Monk the problem was solved and I was loading for it, and it really is a fine little round.
It is really accurate with the usual 338 variety of bullet weights and seems to be very close or slightly faster than my 338-06, but I have doubts about it being as fast as a 338 WM, which was the original boast regarding the 338 RCM.
Perhaps if one were to "push the envelope" it might, I don't know....

Which is the reason Winchester did not go with the .338WSM, can't quite keep up with the .338WM. I'm sure they are great cartridges just like the SAUM are/were. I have a 7mm SAUM and really like it. Unfortunately for the RCM and the SAUM (even the 7mm WSM), "the tribe has spoken"!:(:D

I noticed Ruger has a .308 Win in their line-up of Compact Magnum Rifles. Maybe they're trying to broaden the market appeal for what is actually, in my opinion, a very attractive rifle.

I feel the 338 RCM is a great cartridge, the jury is still out on the Ruger rifle though
Mine shot good, but had some issues, I'm waiting for a replacement from Ruger.
I will then call em like I sees em.

Perhaps the Hornady Superformance ammo is close to the 338 WinMag. Then again, when one buys 338 WinMag in the same Hornady ammo, there is a big difference again.
Unfortunately, I could see the failure of this caliber from the start. The 338WM is very popular and one would need to have the same or slightly better performance in a new shortmag caliber, something like the 375 Ruger vs. 375 H&H. I'm really not sure what Ruger and Hornady were thinking with this one.

i still thinking this is a short 338-06 that is not that bad on his own ...
