I'm looking at picking up a Ruger DA 22 revolver soon. Obviously, the choices are the GP100 in .22 or the SP101 .22. I really like the size of the SP, but most reviews indicate it has an atrocious trigger pull. Obviously, lighter springs and gunsmithing are options but is it possible to get this revolver down to a decent trigger pull without spending too much, or running into lots of misfires? Are these reasonably accurate for a small revolver? The GP is also a good option aswell. I'd imagine it probably outshoots the SP and holds 2 more rounds but apparently is a tank for a .22. How is the trigger on these? Can it be brought down to a reasonable weight with aftermarket springs?

Really torn on this one, so any info is appreciated.

I had a SP101. Even with a main spring upgrade it couldn't compete with my 617 and 17. With the price of those things these days I would suggest stepping up to a 617 instead.

ok lets see if i can help here.
i have a GP100 but its in 357mag.
i also have a SP-101 in 22.
i picked up the SP101 a couple years after i got my GP100 because i really like the GP100 but wanted it in 22.
at that time they did not have the GP100 in 22 like they do now.
i did not realize at the time that the SP101 was a smaller gun.
i personally wanted my GP100 but in 22, so i was a little off put by the SP initially.
and to make things worse the trigger on the SP was atrocious!
you needed 3 strong men and a small child to work back the hammer on that damn gun!

i ordered a spring replacement kit from Wolf (which was no problem, they ship to Canada) and spent a evening polishing the SP and replacing the springs and that made the gun MUCH MUCH better!!!
so i guess what i would say to you is what size of pistol do you want?
do you want the bigger framed GP or do you want the smaller framed SP?
they are essentially the same gun just different sized.

over the last couple years the SP was worn on me and now i really like it, supper nice gun to shoot.
but, i still think if i wasnt so lazy id probably sell mine and pick up a GP in 22, but with the prices of them now i think ill just stay where i am.

think i have some pics of the size difference, let me check....

here is my SP

What spring weight did you end up going with? Are there many misfires with it? What’s the accuracy like? Was the polishing job easy to do? Thanks for the info and pics!

A little different than the SP101 I have. I believe mine is an early production model. Stainless with black rubber grips with black plastic inlays. Also, it has a full length lug on the bottom of the barrel and the rear sight is adjustable for windage only. Trigger pull isn't bad but hard for anyone to beat the single action pull found on S&W double action revolvers.

Looking at the Wolff site it seems lighter springs can be had for the GP100 than sp101. I suppposed that would make it easier to get a nice trigger pull? I’m sure the smith will always have a better trigger. I have a colt and a smith da already just looking to try something different.

The SP101's trigger is heavy for sure, I finally ordered some springs but by that time something had changed...... my fingers got stronger!
I still have the springs and will possibly change them out one day but for know I treat my SP101 as my "workout" gun. It's helped me develop a smoother more powerful trigger pull and when I switch to a lighter trigger it's almost too easy!

The stock grip is pretty small and might bother some, but I don't mind small grips specially on a .22lr.

mine is from the latest iteration of the SP101-22 that they came out with back in 2013
