I have always disliked the look of the stock on the Ruger FTW and today I fixed that. Two hours later with a few coats of Citristrip, an Oral B battery powered toothbrush and some elbow grease for the checkering resulted in the pics below. This stuff worked amazingly and had the FTW finish bubbling up after only 15 minutes. The Oral B was integral for the tough areas and checkering. Obviously it’s laminated wood but do you guys think a coat of linseed oil is in order once dried? I think maybe so…Cheers

I used Tru Oil to cover a gouge in the stock of my Guide Gun, and it blended seamlessly with the rest of the finish. So I imagine an oil coat work well on the laminate you uncovered.

What was before, some thick film finish?

Drown the first coat in 1:1 Tung oil/Thinner and wipe off the excess after 12 hours. Repeat until it's as built up as you like. Buff dry, apply wax, done!
