Ruger gp 100 4.2"

Heh... unfortunately that is Ruger. Built strong, but definitely not show pieces. I can relate. I had a Redhawk 4.2" with similar blemishes. I've just got a Super Redhawk which is better than my Redhawk, but far from flawless.

In my case I saw less nicks & scratches with my recent purchase so I was happy.

Interesting thing to note:
My Super Redhawk has the exact same mark as your 2nd pic; maybe from a receiver lock of some kind at the factory?

The GP100 is the only one that I know of that comes from the Factory in a 4.2 inch barrel. Many have bought S&W's and had the barrel cut down to 4.2 inch.

k, thx. i had briefly thought about the chop-saw on a 686 as being an alternative... looks like that is how we get short S&Ws up here.
 
Well, I got mine in the mail today and have to say I am impressed and I will for sure be keeping mine.. will go shooting soon...
