Hey guys I'm looking at buying a ruger GP100 in stainless. I'm trying to decided what length of barrel I want. I have handled both 4.2 and 6" barrels. They both equally feel great to me. Any thoughts here guys ?

Thanks

as you get down the road, you'll find the 4 inch "handier"- unless you want to target shoot - there's a reason the police forces for years used a 4 inch in 38 special

Yeah. It was common, lighter and meant for close distances.

If you plan on Competitions, the 4.2" is great due to holster availability.
If for target shooting only (aka from the bench), 6" will suit you better.

If just because, it is a toss up :)

I personaly prefer the 4.2 I own. Great for up close and works for me on the bench at 200 yards just fine. 4.2 is great as stated befor for the holster draw, plus I feel it gives you more situational awareness with less barrel infront to get tunnel vision on.
But again it's a personal choice, but I always with stick with a shorter barrel ;)

I poked around on the boards quite a bit before buying a 4.2" (which I freaking love) and the general consensus seemed to be that most people found it as accurate as the 6" and felt it was more comfortable to shoot for extended periods.

I got 6 first, and then 4.2.

I prefer the 4.2 for its better balance and pointability. My accuracy is better with the 6er as predicted but what is an inch bigger group at 10 meters? Nothing really. YMMV

You wont be disapointed with the 6". Same with the 4.2" haha...but I would not trade mine for the 4.2.

I just watched a vidio of how to compleatly tear one down ,and having a MK II I really want one cause it is a cool design also! I kinda like my S&W Mod 27&28's and 19's ,but

This looks like a quality built gun.
