I have a Ruger with their hex head guard screws. The front screw recess is oversize and is impossible to tighten anymore. It's good for one tightening with a new bit and then that bit is rounded off enough to cause grief. Is this common? If not I'm going to order a new set. If it is I'm going to see about having one made. Thanks.

I've not had that happen before with my Rugers. Its just the one screw?

I bet you can find a torx bit that will fit it and grab tight. I've done that several times with stripped allen head screws/bolts

I've owned Rugers with the slotted heads and have never had a problem. I can't recall if they are metric or imperial but I don't recall the recess being oversized at all.

I have only seen that happen with a worn or cheap bit... I have never had problems with Ruger action screws whether slotted or Hex... and I really like the Torx screws in the rings... I have changed over all of the slotted ring screws to Torx.

I will have to do some research and see if the action screws can be switched to Torx... the front and rear for sure, but the middle might not have enough clearance for the floorplate.
