Ordered a scope and cancelled it, ordered another scope and cancelled that one...on and on.

I need advice.

From what I read the 416 Ruger is a pretty flat shooting rifle, that being said I would assume it's easily good to 300-400 yards.

If I'm going for a scope that purely for 100+ yards I would guess that a 4-12 or even a 10+ base magnification would be fine IF the glass was good quality.

I like big scopes. I have a 10-40x50mm on a 10/22. Total overkill. I get it.

I would like something that you can pretty much see the whiskers on a rabbit at 300 yards only because I thinks it's amazing to have that ability.

Practical? Probably not.

I am not a both eyes open 1-4 power kind of guy and 99.9% of my shots are at a target.

The guide gun is that matte stainless silver and I'd love to match it, but I don't think that's realistic.

So I'm open to suggestions.

I ordered a nice Leupold then read about warranty issues if it comes from the USA so it was one of the cancelled.

I had a 10-5x60 siiiss loaded up and decided not to due to a reaction I saw when I mentioned it in another thread.

I don't want to spend $2000. I'm okay to $1500. I'm okay with 1" or 30mm body.

I know these guide guns are light and if a scope has a lifetime warranty that's great, but I don't ever want to have to claim it due to the jarring of the 416 recoil.

So I'm here to ask what you'd buy for $1500 or less that won't break, weight isn't a factor, color isn't a factor but would pretty much give you the ability to pick which wing on the fly you want to take off...with good eye relief.

Please keep the flaming to a minimum. Please?

Lay it on me and don't be afraid to mention factors I haven't considered.

Much appreciated.

Jeff

400 grain bullet at 2400fps... that's gonna have nearly 13" drop at 300, and over 37" @400, if you zero at 200. (3.1 inches high at 100)

Not exactly the flattest shooter around, but it's no black powder 45-70 either.

I would be going with something compact and light. Maybe a 2-7x. With lots of eye relief.

You also never mentioned what you plan to use the rifle for. If you ever planned to go to Africa, or use it in thick grizzly country, a 1-4 or even no scope at all might be best. If you are just punching paper, then whatever tickles your fancy.

Thanks so far!

I will never be on the dark continent or banging in the bush in Alaska....

I might want to see a gopher explode, but I will be mostly punching paper truth be told.

You're 100% on with BD.

It's the longevity part and abuse of recoil that's my biggest concern besides things I hadn't considered.

Most scopes over like $300 should be able to withstand the recoil. Obviously get something with a warranty just in case.

Have you checked out sightron scopes? Jerry @mystic precision seems to swear by therm.

Have a look at the Meopta Zd 4-16x44. I got mine for under $1100 all in last fall. Amazing glass quality and comes with a lifetime transferable warranty. Has a very fine Mildot reticle that illuminates the centre of the crosshair if needed. This is in Meopta's tactical line and is designed for military/LE use so should be durable enough for your needs.

The Burris 2-12X42 Six-X was perfect on my .375 Ruger. And look, it's for sale, cheap! Toughest scope I ever had. Fantastic glass with tons of eye relief.

All the suggestions have been great. I am going through each one.

Think if I am going to treat this 416 like a 5.56 I'm going to do it correctly 👍🏻

Edit:

Cabelas sells a euro scope 6-18 made my meopta that is only $850. I decided to buy it.

See what it's like when it arrives!
