I saw a left handed one recently at a store in Alberta. Given a choice though, I would much rather buy the Canadian 18" version.

Which store?
I accidentally hit it twice. Anymore smartass remarks? Is it entirely possible that he hasn't been online in the 3 hours since you last asked the same question?

No way is it under 26".Does the 16" barrel thus make it fall into the 'Restricted' class. Puts it under 26" overall doesn't it ?
Most reviews I have read (over 15 of them) on the Ruger Gunsight Scout - most people say that they "wish the rifle was 18" like the Canada or Australian version" for the improved ballistics with the Rifling.
But I was under the impression/belief that a barrel had to be 18" in Canada (generally) - I know the Rossi Ranch Hands are wee.
The Gunsite Scout is not semi-auto. As such, as long as the OAL in an operational capacity is not less than 26" you're good to go. This is why we can get 8" barrels for the Grizzly pump shotgun and they are still non-restricted.According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:
a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,
a firearm that
is not a prohibited firearm,
has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,
a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or
a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm
