Does anybody have one? I am thinking about picking one up for a deer/moose rifle but have read mixed reviews.

What are your thoughts?

i too have read mixed reviews, but i think they are good rifles. only down side in my eyes is it has a plastic trigger guard and magwell. but i guess it lightens the rifle up. i would find a buddy that has one and ask him if you can shoot it!

I'm very satisfied with mine, it is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for in a rifle, something that does many things well. I'd have to say that you should know what you want. It's not the most accurate, or the lightest, or the fanciest, or the least felt recoil. It's an everyman rifle. That's exactly what I want, so I love mine.

Even though I dont plan on mounting a scope I kind of dislike the fact that the rear sight has to be removed to use the ring grooves underneath. Would be nice if it had space for both but that's the same as the polymer trigger guard and mag well, it doesn't really affect the utility of the rifle. Maybe some day when I'm rich and/or famous I'll look into getting a those altered.

If you're near Edmonton I'm willing to let you try mine.

I don't know about the recoil, you can fire it all day and not even get a bruise. The thing barks more than it bites, it is really loud.

I am currently saving my pennies for one.

Most poor reviews didnt seem that warranted to me. I dont love the 10 round factory mag but the new polymer mags seem nice.

Its a good jack-of-all trades and I am sure that its accuracy potential is as good as any other sporter-type rifle. It has a fairly heavy and probably stiff barrel, triggers are apprently quite good. I am looking forward to trying one.

The trigger is actually quite good for a single stage. It breaks like glass but it still has enough resistance to be a hunting trigger, fine work from Ruger I'd have to say, they walked that tightrope perfectly.

The stock is very nice. It's small, laminated, and ###y looking for wood, not that I'm ### with guns but you know what it's like (11pm, 8+ beers, hunting mag and rem lube).

I would recommend this rifle to any hunter that likes their battle rifles. This is the closest you're going to get to an upgraded Enfield or Mauser, even if it lacks some functionality, it makes up for it in other ways.

I've had a lefty on order from Epps since January, so I can't wait. I don't agree with a few posters claiming that this rifle isn't or can't be a tack driver. The barrel is short and rigid and the trigger, if needed, can be lightened up considerably. With a good scope, scout style or not and with the proper load this little rifle will surely produce sub MOA groups. Hopefully some of our members that have achieved this will post their results.

I have had mine for about a year.....308 is a good all round caliber..certainly enough for moose......sturdily built with well protected iron sights.....and if you do not like the 10 rd. metal mag. you can get polymer mags with less capacity....
Strand me in the bush with one rifle.....this is the one...

With that big chewy butt pad it bites less then my 30-30 definitly loud enough thou
My only complaint would be the less then perfectly smooth action the requires you to "smartly" close the bolt

I'm hoping some slipstream might help as well as more use

Anyone sell slipstream in the GTA?

This is true, like all crappy mauser platforms, the bolt wobbles and can get stuck. I tolerate it it simply because you can't get a modern enfield action in stainless so there's really no other alternative that sucks less.

I shot 40 rounds through my GSS and then 120 through my SVT40 on Sunday, not a mark on my shoulder or any discomfort. These guns weigh enough and there is not enough recoil to hurt the shoulder. I'm not claiming to be some kind of iron man who can take a 300win mag recoil to the nuts, I can only handle about 25 rounds of 2 3/4 12g slugs out of an 870express before it's punishment going any further.
