Ruger Hawkeye stock fit

Its blued, and its chambered in 7mm-08 which is written on the side of the receiver with green inlay.

My first Ruger 77 in 6mm Rem was the tang safety model and was from about 76 or 77.
Really liked the rifle but 2" groups at 200 turned in to 5" groups the next day.
An article suggested placing a flat plumber's washer between the stock and action which would essentially free float the barrel.
Never tried it though as I traded that rifle for a Remington 700 Classic in 270 Win.

Just a thought . . .

I don't know him but I bought it here in the EE as near new.

hang on let me get a picture.

I might have screwed up on the pictures... is your barrel blued? I think that I was looking at Freddy's rifle that he posted with a matte stainless barrel... But someone definitely added the green paint in the engraving, that is not a Ruger factory thing.

Ah, got ya, and yes my barrel and receiver are blued.

Oops... sorry for the scare, my bad. I'm on my phone so pictures are not very clear (neither are my eyes for that matter, getting old sucks)... but are those Ruger scope rings? they look "off." Maybe aftermarket 30mm rings?

No worries, its okay! I was confused looking between his and my pictures and its my rifle!

Good eye btw those are Leupold rings for an M77. They were cheaper than buying Ruger brand.

Looks crisp, I didn't know Ruger made a Hawkeye with actual blued steel. I thought that ended with the MKII? Looks a lot nicer then the matte finish I have though.

I have a wood-stocked Hawkeye compact that has the nice shiney blued finish. I don't know how many Ruger put out with that finish.

Most of the Standard "R" models were done in the exceedingly gross Matte finish in both Blue (Black) and Stainless, but Ruger did select models in the polished stainless and true blued... notably some of the Lipsey's International rifles, some Compact models, the African series... and some random standards... IMO the polished versions are much nicer and wear better... the matte finish marks up easily.
