Has the Ruger Hawkeyes been discontinued or are they just not being imported into Canada anymore. There are a few fine retailers from this site that have a few but otherwise they seem to have ninja dusted in the last year or so.

Honestly haven't noticed but I think they dropped the ball when they stopped making the Frontier model, that or no one appreciated them.
Mine in 358 is one of my favourite rifles perfect for my type of hunting, great to carry, just a very handy rifle and a hard hitter.
With a 225 gr. load it has good capability for most big game..

A fairly recent addition to my harem was this Lipsey model Ruger M-77 Hawkeye RSI in 7x57 acquired from a site member, Hoytcanon. :) Destined to serve primarily as my Vancouver Island Deer rifle :d .

What are you talking about? What would make you think that Ruger discontinued the M77 Hawkeye? They will continue production until a new version is released... and that is not the entry level American model.

My latest in 35 Whelen surprised me........ It has the slim stock and red pad...... But the finish is not blued....... It's a bbq paint type finish and, while solidly done, was not what I expected based on description........

If it's the same finish they use on the "blued" scouts, that's a pretty durable finish. The stock is definitely slim in the forend compared to other brands.

Just an observation doesnt seem to be many around. Where i am the 2 major stores have stopped carrying them. And the selection at our online sources are quite small compared to the american. Which makes it seem like they have either put their eggs into the quantity basket of product sales.

Here's my Hawkeye, a .416 Ruger Alaskan -

As you know, I am not really a fan of the Hawkeye rifles... the "matte" finish is one of the reasons... I prefer either rich bluing or "bright" stainless... one of the reasons that I like the MKII'S...

I'd guess sign of the economic times. People have less to spend on quality guns these days so the entry level stuff is the focus.
