Ahhh look at all the pretty targets.. Full cans of Rootbeer, a book, a paintball, and golfing with a 22..

The Carnage afterwards... The one can to the far right, pretty much exploded. I think I hit it with a CCI .22 Velociter 1650FPS. The book has pages stuck together :p

Pieces of pop can imbedded them self into the MCI Sub.

I think full pop cans are my new favorite target

Why would you place a big rock right in the middle of your shooting zone? Sure fire ricochets off of that... even if there is nothing in the area, it is safest to minimize stray bullets.

Back when I was, oh, 30+ years younger than I am now, my cousin and I would spend hours zipping rocks in the field with .22s just to hear that fantastic sound (zeee---yeoooooooowwwww-wow-wow-wow...). Until my uncle caught us. Neither of us could sit comfortably for a week after that. Lesson learned.

"the book has pages stuck together"

really?
what exactly did you do between those pictures that the pages got all stuck together?
i can feel for ya, shooting is a nice release, but i dont think id go posting pics and bragging about it, its kinda out there kinky and deviant like.

I wasn't shooting at the rock, and with the scope and the wind, the rock was to keep the foam from flying off. Shooting at big rocks directly is just stupid. However, after today (Saturday) I'll have a membership at the Comox Fish & Game club, and a nice cushy range to hang out at..

Looks like a pleasant afternoon of fun.

Where was that, out of curiosity??? I lived in Comox for a couple of years, long long ago.

And you did the right thing, after???

You know off Duncan Bay Mainline, between Piercy Rd, and Mount Washington. Click here for the Google Map of the gravel pit

I'm gonna leave that to your imagination,

Do you shake the pop cans first?Velocitors are 1400 fps, not 1650 just sayin.

uhm, maybe they wern't velocitors then, I know they were CCI, the guy at Gone Fishing said they were 1650 FPS, and on the box I kind of remember seeing 1650.. Blue box, red writing... Copper Coated Hollow Points, they hit a heck of a lot harder then the Winchester Hollow points I have.

Just clean up after..
What's with the arrow?

my garbage always leaves with me... The Arrow was there from someone else.. I found it a great place to hang a pop can from.

Either Stinger or the 32 grain Segmented Hollow Points... Both are rated at 1640 FPS.

I'm a fan of the 32GR SHP rounds. Gophers drop dead. Period. No twitching around or dragging their legs behind them with a broken spine.

The problem is that I find most .22 rifles don't stabilize them very well - too darn fast. I have one .22 that can drive nails with them out to 100 yards. My other two .22 rifles are maybe, MAYBE minute of pop can at 50 yards with it, but group fantastic with CCI Mini Mags at the same distance.

Fantastic stuff in the right rifle. Really flat trajectory.

Yes, they were segmented, I googled them, and saw a picture, I remember the segmented in big white letters. I'm still learning, and only a month into owning firearms.

I dont know if we have gophers on the Island... But I am of the mindset, I wont kill soemthing if I cant eat it, or if it isn't a pest..

GOPHERS? Someone mentioned GOPHERS? I'm awake !!!!! Not soon enough for the little critters to come out. Rates higher than watching hockey for me. Doing a good deed for farmers.

Kewl...nothing like informal plinkin with a 22.....still giggle doin it at 50 something LOL

Why is there always naysayers chimin in on these posts.....don't shoot at rocks, clean up, don't shoot over yer backstop.....
Hopefully the OP is enviromentally concious, mindful of safety, respectful of wildlife etcetcetc.....or not.....

Just leave the thread innocent and fun.

There..that felt better....gotta get back to shootin rocks at 10 paces with my 45....naked with NO safety glasses....by the fire...beer in hand....LOL

My uncle lost 20 acres opf Canola last year because the hippy d-bag acreagers next to his property refuse to do any varminting. It took a few years for the population to hit a tipping point, but then it spilled over into his field last spring/summer.

With the reduced predation in the prairies, gophers are a real problem in the prairies. When people think of gopher predators, they tend to think of coyotes and wolves. In a healthy, balanced ecosystem, coyotes and wolves only cover a tiny fraction of of varmint predation. Hawks, eagles, and owls, play a far bigger role. And the predatory birds in North America are nowhere near where they need to be.

Until that comes into balance, 10/22s will have hot barrels in the spring :)

I always chuckle when people refer to Rape Seed as Canola. Rape Seed is the plant, Canola is the patented product name. Canola is an acronym, which means Canadian Oil Low Acid. Canola is one of the prime reasons that Bee populations & Monarch Butterfly populations are on the decline. Canola & Corn are the two biggest GMO products on the planet, and they're killing the planet.

our Farmers need to kick Monsanto out, and start growing healthy farms.

When there is a decline in predators, or there is easier food to be had, then "predators" will turn to scavengers. The Eastern Black & Grey Squirrel that has invaded southern BC (an introduced species), has virtually wiped out the western red squirrel & the Chipmunk from the lower mainland, and many parts of south western BC. I use to shoot them with my pellet gun.. Courtenay has a healthy population of Chipmunks & red squirrels, I haven't seen any eastern grey's here.

Dont know why its buging me but thats a MTX sub I hope it was screwed.

I looked at it, and the contacts were broken, and the voice coil was cracked. I didn't bring it out to the pit, it was already there.. I kind of think who ever brought it out there, found out quickly that shooting something as solid as a SUB, was pointless with small caliber.
