Well I have been handling a bunch of diffrent guns and I really like the look and feel of the KP345. I was wanting a 9mm to start with mainly do to recoil and lead price's. If I were to buy this .45 is it going to be more then I can handle (mainly reffering to recoil and ease of use)??? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I just got one... zero complaints/no regrets - I wish it was my first pistol :D

.45ACP is $$$ though - if money is no object, cool. If money is an issue, unless you don't plan to shoot too often you should plan to reload.

I want to get an OD SR9 next.

Thanks for the input everyone. Well the cost of the .45 rounds kinda scare me but I know I wont be shooting everyday so should be ok for cost. The other gun now I was thinking about is the desert eagle "Baby Version" in 9 mm any thoughts on that???

The 345 is a great gun. With that being said, get a 9mm.

Don't buy the Ruger just because its the only .45 you can get for under $600.

Buy a nice 9mm and learn how to shoot. You can shoot 9mm for half the cost of .45 these days.

x2 agree with targettarget

have various 9mm, glocks, beretta, hp, sig, etc., and 1911's

do try diff models out if you can, after the fact, you would not think anymore about whether you spent an extra couple hundred dollars more for a model that you find fits you and your shooting style best

as said on other posts, i think the 345 is of great value, what you get for the price, and it is very underrated as not being a high seller, while gun reviews about it are great.

there is nothing more for you to add to the gun, it works as is, decent sights, trigger, reliable, nothing to improve and there is zilch for after market parts anyway, except you need extra mags, and likely you need the store to order you extra, as no used mags out there that i have ever seen, gun comes only with 2 mags, and you should get more, i think 5 mags per semi auto is the minimal/optimum number and you need to factor in the cost of extra 3 mags, whatever the price is

now if you go with a 1911, chance are you can get extra mags cheaper than 345 mags possibly, so decision is whether you end up spending more $ on the gun, or more $ for extra mags

i have owned both the standard version and the decocker model, if you go with the 345, suggest the decocker version to buy, planning to buy a decocker model again in the future

the standard model has the slide safety, but this is redundant as it is a double action first shot anyway, the decocker version is faster, imho, working like a sig to take the gun from sa mode back to da mode, with a spring mechanism, no locking safety needed

9mm ammo is cheaper than 45. with 45 acp, it is best to reload and that is a hobby in itself, or if you have a friend already reloading, this would be the best, either learning from the friend or have he (or she) do the reloading for you, at cost and favours in return

good luck, part of the fun is in the shopping!!!

Thanks again for all the advice. I agree I should look at a 9mm first and get the hang of things. I put a call into williams arms on the baby eagle in 9mm so waiting to hear back on price etc. Anywhere else you guys suggest I should price check with??? I am looking at the polished chrome version or the brushed chrome just cant decide on which one.

I have a Baby Eagle and it is a very nice gun to shoot. The extra weight up front keeps muzzle flip to a minimum.

The baby eagle is based on the CZ so take a look at similar CZs and Tanfoglios if you cant find the baby eagle you are looking for.

I checked out both at my local shop. No kidding about a heavy chunk of iron! Especially compared to the P345.

Can't comment about how they compare for shooting, but I'll let you know about the 345 as soon as my ATT comes through! I found the 345 to fit my hand like a glove. The BE was nice and maybe it's just my particular hands, but there's no comparison. Now I don't know how much "comfort" plays out in the real world, but while the BE was OK, the 345 was just right.

I did a lot of research before I settled on the 345, and it wasn't just for price. Although the 345 has a couple of quirks (like the mag disconnect), but they can be solved with some very simple mods. Those aside, it's a really good bang for buck.

It is still a .45 and as reasonably priced as it is, it doesn't shoot for free. For cheap practice I went the Norinco T54 route. Cheap gun, cheap ammo, just make sure you get a good warranty. For what my buddy paid for a Para, I got a Griz870 12 ga, the KP345PR, a T54, and still had enough left over for one of those cases of 7.62x25mm to feed it. 2200+ rounds should keep me going for a while.

Still waiting to hear back from williams arms so I think I will head down to the local shops and see if I can handle them both. I shall report back as soon as I can.

Not bad for a used one. There's no way they are selling new 345's for under $400 tax in unless you get some type of discount I'm not aware of.

I paid $600 for mine a year or so ago, there's no way they've come down that much in price.

If they do actually happen to be that cheap, I'll get another one for sure. What store are you talking about?

I seriously doubt a new P345 is selling for $380. P&D has the KP345(S/S) for $549 and thats usually only about $30-$40 more than the blued P345. Looking at Shooters website (.com not .ca) none of their Ruger line is below what P&D charges and they(P&D) are very close to WSL's prices.
BTW, my KP345 is ideal and performs beautifully(once you break the trigger in), but as mentioned above, it costs a few sheckles to feed it. Reloading is best unless you find a secret stash, but if you are wanting to shoot a lot, the I agree with the 9mm as an alternate choice for now.
Good luck:)

Got mine for about $569 plus tax. I broke a part so I called down to Ruger in Arizona and they told me it was a $0.50 part, so I asked what mags were worth. He told me $37 or something, but then when he heard I was from Canada, he said I had to contact the Canadian depot, because they can't ship direct.
So I checked with Location Snapshots and they said my part in Canada is $2.50, but the mags were only $25! How's that for weird!
