Ruger M77/17 - Should I?

So, here is my dilemma.

If you were offered the following deal, would you go for it?

A brand spanky new Ruger M77/17 in .17HM2 in Blue/Walnut for $390 or a brand spanky new Ruger M77/17 in .17HM2 in Grey Laminate/Grey Stainless for $440.

I know both models have been discontinued by Ruger, but still, they are almost half the recommended retail price. Its the old .17HM2 question - should I?

Or should I just go for the Savage 93R17 BTVS in .17HMR?

Tempting...a very nice gun for $390 (which is actually what it is worth)...but I myself wouldn't bother with the HM2.
I just bought the Ruger M77/17Hmr Standard. Got it last week at LeBaron's, very nice rifle, but pricey.
Get something in HMR

I think I may go for a Remington Model 5 in .17HMR.... or maybe not.... god this is difficult, I have always wanted a Ruger 77.
 
I'd go with the 440 version - Might as well have something that looks as unique as the cartridge it shoots. The Rugers in Grey Lam./Stainless are really sharp looking.

I have a Savage in 17HM-2 and I really like it! It's wickedly accurate and shoots fast and flat as a laser. It's good out to just over 100yds on groundhogs (nothing bigger). If you need the extra punch at longer range go with the 17HMR.

I had the best results with the Remington (branded) ammo - which is made by Eley.

Hi, thanks for the tip on the 77's, I bought one this morning, cheaper than any used one I've ever seen. I have a couple of Green Mountain 22lr barrels lying around, and one of them will look real good on this Ruger. I already have an hmr in the target gray and love it. I may use it as the hm2 as well, but after shooting the hmr, the hm2 is not nearly as fun. Later, Mark.
 
OK, I chickened out. I really wanted the Ruger, and the LeBaron price was goooood, but I just could not bring myself to buy anything in .17HM2. I just had that nagging doubt in the back of my mind about the longevity of the ammo. After all, a $390 buck rifle is still expensive if the ammo becomes hard to come by.

So, what did I do?

I got a Remington Model 5 from Elwood Epps, for $253 bucks. Thats for te Blue/Laminate rifle, not a youth model, in .17HMR - not a bad deal at all.
