My well used Ruger M77V in 6mm rem is cratering primers and now pierced one last time out. Looking to get this repaired. Hole in bolt face is definitely ovaled.

Who can do this repair?
Lower Vancouver island area. Unless i can ship just the bolt.

If the firing pin hole is worn oval, the boltface should probably be bushed. Also, It is common for Ruger 77's to have a collapsed striker spring. If a primer has blanked, it has likely damaged the spring further. You may well be able to get away with just replacing the spring. I would have to see the bolt to know for sure.

I took the bolt apart. Spring seems good. Had a chunk of primer jamming in the pin though. Haven't tried it since. Goes click.

CCI 200 primer, 100gr speer GS,. 46gr imr4831. Same load i have used for years.

I guess 3500+ rounds fired. Still shoots excellent. Consistently under an 1" at 100 with any ammo. thanks

If, at either end of the spring, the coils are collapsed upon one another, the spring is not good and should probably be replaced.

I saw one Ruger bolt where the firing pin hole was so far off center it struck the primer between the center of the primer and the outer edge of the primer. Many misfires with factory ammo. Ruger replaced the bolt under warranty.

The bolt pictured in this thread can be fixed by a competent smith and if any headspace issues fixed as well, but Ruger may do something for you. Check about that first.

I phoned the warranty shop in Quebec. My French is minimal. Was a waste of time. I sent them a email. Might be easier to communicate.

It sounds like the rifle has seen it's last action, completely worn out and doesn't owe you a penny. Ruger builds the best rifles on the market for the money. Time for a new replacement M77.

So the hole is worn from hundreds of firings with a mis-alignement ?
I had an experience of a eroded firing pin and fp hole after puncturing two primers due to excess pressure , a bad reloading story

but if your fp is still good, maybe just a change up to a harder primer would suffice? iirc Winchesters are harder? would need research
And a new Tubbs spring wouldn't hurt

I would say 1000s of miss alignment. Firing pin looks fine. I had it apart after the last primer blow out. Springs look good too. I was thinking of getting it bushed. Trying to find someone to do it.

If you already don’t have a “go-to” Smith, Send a message to Guntech, he’s posted in this thread.

John

Guntech isn't taking on more work until the fall, from one of his posts. He definitely can do the job properly.

Weber and Markin in Kelowna BC can and will do the job.

Here's a new, factory test fired only, M77 Hawkeye bolt face from a rifle I have. Not sure what the black ring is, and I'm not too impressed with the machining, firing pin hole shape or other imperfections seen here.

That looks terrible... it appears that the primer would back out considerably.. possibly rupture around the perimeter.

Can not tell from picture is center raised or recessed or just a ring around center ???

It's just a black ring that can be scraped off. I wonder if they paint the face with a compound and fire it to see if the face makes good contact with the case. There's some of that black stuff around the outer edge too.
