Ruger M77, decent gun?

Rebarrel can get tricky and/or expensive as well so check what options you have with a gunsmith. Problems are the extractor on the bolt not fitting another caliber, magazine may have to be changed, cost of the barrel, cost of the labour to have it done as the ones that come to mind.

You just have to give Rugers a chance, and they will shoot.

I put a Timney trigger in and bought a B&C stock, and then bedded it.

I'm pretty sure that is good enough accuracy to kill a deer...:p

Great guns for hunting. Best safety in the business. While not "on average" as accurate as rem or savage I have had a few that were remarkable for factory guns. The VT version will provide greater accuracy for varmint work and some will shoot with astounding accuracy. They don't, as Guntech stated, lend themselves to extreme precision. By this I mean you don't usually see a ruger action used for 1000yd, benchrest, silhouette, tac matches or any other sport where .2-.5" five shot groups are the norm. As for a hunting rifle, I believe they are simply the most rugged, reliable and safe action going. Not to mention economical!!!

For 09 Ruger is making a 'Hawkeye Tactical' M77 with a Hogue stock. Sounds like the answer to a question nobody is asking. I predict a 2-3 yr production run then sunset time :) :D

I bought a pencil barrel MK II in .22-250 that is pretty accurate, once I replaced the trigger. It shoots 2" groups at 200 metres with a cross breeze. Great looking gun and accurate. The bugger really seems to kick though.
