Hello , I have a .204 Ruger in a Ruger M77 Mark 2 that had a problem with the trigger going off on its own when I slammed the bolt down. I did some research and found out that the small area in which the trigger itself sits on the sear is worn out. I cleaned up the small micro bevel on the sear that the trigger sits on, and took a little off of the body of the sear so that the trigger engages more. This cured my problems. My question for all of you experts is what negative effect might this have on the trigger? Is the surfaces that I took the stone to hardened and the repair will only last a short while? Or am I good to go? Or should I just purchase a new sear? I watched a couple of videos about this on You Tube and I am not the first person to do this . These triggers are pretty basic . But there are people out there who will tinker with anything. Any info or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ruger M77's are great rifles but the factory triggers aren't to everyone's liking. They don't recommend modifying the trigger mechanism because it could be rendered unsafe to operate. Modifying the trigger would be at one's own peril. And of course providing advice on how to go about modifying it creates possible liability issues.

Not a recommendation but rather than modifying my Mark II trigger I replaced it with a Jard trigger assembly. I have 2 Hawkeye rifles with LC6 triggers and found there's an easy, safe and cheaper way to improve these. :d
