The Dupont Zytel Synthetic stock Ruger made in the 1990's was way ahead of it's timing. I have owned several of the original Zytel stocks in various calibers up to 338 Win. Mag.
They came on the Ruger Mark II stainless models and I have seen them on blued guns as well. Not sure if they came from the factory with blued barrels and actions though.
These stocks did not bend or warp upon firing like a lot of the cheaply made synthetic stocks of today. This made these models tack drivers, well at least the models I have owned.
Twenty five years later people now want a solid dependable synthetic stock, the skeleton or paddle style ( zytel ) stocks are now in demand because of nostalgia and I believe folks realized how great they really are! The look is not for everyone, this could have contributed to it being discontinued. I am sure cost factor also played into it's demise.
They seem to bring a premium now on a stainless model in good shape regardless of the caliber available, I totally understand why.....
I have seen these stocks with green, wood, white pearl and other colored insert panels on the stock as well. They certainly give it a different but cool look.
