Hello,

It’s been along time since I’ve posted on CGN, but I figured this would be the best place to get some answers to my questions.

I’ve had a burning desire to get my .350 rem mag shooting a bit better, specifically at longer distances. ( I know it’s not ment for that but I have my reasons) I think the best place to start with that would be buying a better stock.

Dose anyone have any recommendations on what stocks are worth buying these days? I will mainly be using this as a hunting rig.

Also I’m located in the Yukon and I’m unsure if HS precision and McMillan stocks are able to be sent to Canada?

Thanks

I have a Ruger M77 Mark II .350 Rem Mag, it is in a Ruger factory Laminate Stock. Bell & Carlson only make stocks for Long Action rifles, so that is out for you. Is your rifle an M77 or M77 Mark II? HS Precision make LA and SA stocks but only for Mark II/Hawkeye rifles, not for M77 Tang Safety. As far as I know McMillan are completely out of doing stocks for Ruger rifles altogether.

It’s a mark ll. The stock on it seems very cheap made out of plastic. You made me rethink my plan and look for one like yours in stainless and laminate.

Is your rifle Blued? Most of the synthetic stocked rifles in .350 RM were stainless, unless someone restocked yours with a factory synthetic. For a laminate stock, you can order directly from Boyd's or if you want a factory synthetic, contact Gravel Agency (Canadian Ruger warranty center) in Quebec. I am pretty certain that they can no longer get factory Grey SA laminate stocks, but it is worth a shot. They will want the serial number of your rifle. Boyd's is your easiest route.

Yes it’s blued I’ll attach a picture.
You aren't the original owner? As far as I know the only Blued Mark II 350's sold in synthetic stocks, were in the Zytel boat paddle design... it is likely that someone swapped the walnut stock out for the factory synthetic... some of the walnut stocks on the blued. 350's had pretty amazing grain... I had a couple of those, and it did make you think twice about beating it up in the bush... the easy fix to that was swapping the walnut for the plastic... I suspect that happened to yours.

Well it’s a bit of storey how I ended up with this rifle. I used a 45/70 as a for years as a guide/river rifle. My best friend was adamant about me getting a .350 RM, eventually he just gave me this one. He told me to use it before I pay him for it. It came in its original box so I thought? It was brand new never fired. So learning that came in a walnut stock is all news to me.

After using it, I don’t think I’ve used my 45/70 since….

I'm driving home from the range... I got my .350 RM Carbine sighted in for an African hunt... this is with the Leupold VX-R 2-7X33 mounted. I was going to work on the 6.5 RM as well, but forgot a 0.050" Allen Key for the Leupold Turret... that will be another trip.

Oh how I would love to get my hands on 250 partitions. How do you like that Leupold? I bought that 1-8 strike eagle. It’s worthless after 6 power. I’ve been thinking about some new glass.

I like the VX-R's but they aren't making them anymore. I have several VX-3HD and VX-5HD scopes with IR, and they are decent. I like the VX-3HD 1.5-5X20 IR on my .458 WM Carbine... very bright and fast target acquisition.

Some 'polymer' stocks are cheap, others not so much
I put a B&C on a Ruger and was happy happy
any identifying labels on your stock? On the butt maybe?
His stock.is the standard Ruger factory synthetic... in other words, plastic.

You can foam fill the buttstock and epoxy in a carbon arrow shaft into the forend to stiffen it, but an aftermarket laminate is cheap and a better way to go.
