looking at a usedRugar M77 mint condition. It comes with a bushnell 4-12X40scope. IT is wood with a blued heavy varmit barrel in 22-250. Anyone have issues? pro's cons? I am looking at $800 in case with sling. That a good deal?

If it shoots well enough, it's a precision rifle. My experience with ruger varminters would indicate that it probably does shoot well enough. I've shot a bunch which were solid 1/2 moa rifles. Not bad. I think the price is too high though. Of course, I'm a cheapskate! Regards, Bill

The people that own heavy barrelled rifles tend to shoot them more frequently than a typical sporting rifle. If the shooting is done at a range, then the rifle can appear pristine, and have shot a lot of rounds. And 22-250 is hard on barrels.
As above, price is likely too high...

800 for new unfired. Scope is likely a cheap bushy. If the scope is a elite 3200 or 4200 it would be ok. If there was not too many rounds down the pipe and it was well cleaned it may be worth it. Not enough info.

It really comes down to the model of the scope.

well I bought the gun. took it out today. on the up and down adjustor it's got a little window that allows u to adjust it between 50-500 yards. pretty cool don't know if I'll ever use that but it's there if I do. SIghted it in at 100 yards. NEver shot a 22-250 before. I was shakey at first but got it doing ok. 3 shotts well inside of a quater at 100yards. Just using a cheap gun vise off the tail gate of the truck. I'm now realy to ge tout and blast some yotes and chucks!

Well then if you are happy with the gun and satisfied with what it does then the gun was worth the price you paid for it. Enjoy the shooting and good luck with the varmints.

I hate Rugers and would eat worms before owning one.....A guy should never say that sort of thing!

One day at the local range while I was drilling respectably small holes at 300 yards I looked down the line and saw a buddy had showed up (a Ruger fan) and was shooting his little light 220 swift (light barrel). He and his spotter laughing after every shot.
I swung my spotting scope over and saw that they were laughing as they repeatedly hit a 300 yard gong....No big deal...until I noticed that the gong had fallen over and they were shooting (and hitting) the 5/8" thick edge...Every time!

The accuracy potential of that 8.5 pound rifle was nothing less than astounding.

I still hate Rugers, but I keep my opinion to myself these days! :D

If it shoots like the M77 I had in 220 swift it's definately precision. Unless someone's willing to break the news to 13 other shooters at a Sierra match that they got beat by a hunting rifle.

Mine shot 1/4 min. all day.

i have an old tang safety Ruger 77 V in 25-06 that will consistantly shoot 5 shot groups sub 1/4" at 100 yards have a burris HBR 6 power scope on it with a fine dot. she just loves 100gr Sierra HpBt match and IMR4895 powder. Yes Rugers shoot well.olddudeone

I have a Ruger M77 Mk11 *Target* in .204 with a Elite 5-15x40 for glass. Off a bipod in the grass at gophers on all kinds of terrain it will pop 'em with no effort out at 200-250 yrds.
If I was better without shaking so much or was using a shooting stand I can't see why 300-400 yrd shots with 32gr Vmaxs' wouldn't be possible.
