I bought a ruger mark II off the EE recently and It all went well. it arrived the other day and I took it to the range. had a Blast.

when I got it home I tryed watching a youtube video on cleaning it and tryed to follow along. i made it to the part where you pull out the pin on the back that allow the swing arms"thing" to move. and in the video he removed that whole piece. but i couldnt figure out how. so i figured that i would put the arm back in the oringal position and leave it alone untill i found out more info.

that all worked well but now i cant get teh gun to ####.
and i cant figure out what i did wrong. i can pull the action back around 1/2 a inch and it stops.

any sugestions?

the hammer strut is not installed properly.it is caught under a pin.that thing that hangs from the hammer(strut) needs to connect into the detent (dimple) on the mainspring.there's a site that explains everything.i'll see if i can find it...

reassembly instructions start on page 20.

step 11 quoted below describes your problem.

"11. The housing latch can now be snapped shut,
completing reassembly. To determine if
reassembly is correct, pull bolt back, It should
open fully. If not, open latch, remove
mainspring housing, and repeat steps 6-10
above."

When you put the "swing arms thing" back in, make sure you point the gun UP, and give it a little shake. This will make sure that the hammer strut goes into place properly. With the "swing arm thing" out, look into the gun, and you can see a little piece ~1cm wobble back and forth when you move the gun, that's what's causing you problems.

well the line that help me fix it was :

TO RENDER THE PISTOL INOPERATIVE FOR SAFE STORAGE
Using a paper clip or similar non-marring tool, pull down on the main springhousing latch located at the lower rear of the pistol grip. Swing the main springhousing upward. With the pistol pointed upward, pull the trigger. Keeping thepistol pointing downward swing the main spring housing back in to the pistolgrip and push the latch back into the main spring housing until it is flush withthe pistol grip. When assembled in this manner, it should be impossible to fully retract the boltto chamber a cartridge. With the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, test thepistol by attempting to retract the bolt. If the bolt cannot be retracted more thana fraction of an inch, the pistol has been assembled in an inoperative condition. It is uncocked and cannot be fired without correct reassembly. To reassemble the pistol for firing, again using a paper clip or similar non-marring tool, pull down on the main spring housing latch and point the muzzleupward. Pull the trigger and keep the muzzle pointed in an upward direction.Swing the main spring housing back into position and shut the main springhousing latch. Test the pistol to be sure it is correctly reassembled by attemptingto retract the bolt fully. If the bolt can be fully retract

but i still cant get the main spring housing to come out. i have even tryed payying on th ebolt stop pin with a plastic hammer to no avail.

any more sugestions?

So you have unlatched the spring housing, swung the housing all the way out and up and now can't pull the pin out to release the bolt, correct?

I followed this site and had no problems my first time stripping my 22/45:

...I still cant get the main spring housing to come out. I have even tried prying on the bolt stop pin with a plastic hammer to no avail. Any more suggestions?

I know of one case where the pin that attaches the bolt stop pin to the mainspring housing drifted to one side and became trapped by the grip frame. This made mainspring housing removal impossible (until the owner waged a sustained attack on his MKI with a drill). (Cheese anybody?)
