I received my 22/45 in the mail today and I'm pretty disappointed with how skinny the grips are. I waited for well over a year to find one but unfortunately its the base model without the interchangeable grips. I'm considering doing the grip mod where you dremel down the handles and drill holes on both sides to accept 1911 grips and am just wondering if anybody here has done it with successful results. I don't like the idea of what this mod entails but the grip is horrible so I'm going to explore all options.

There are aftermarket slip-ons that might work for you. The thin grip was the reason why I sold mine...many years ago.

I also don't care for the grip on mine, but am not about to start carving up the frame to make it better either.
If memory serves though, there was a guy on RFC that was making grips that fit over the stock "panels" and could be secured with either screws or adhesive...might be worth looking into.

Thanks for the input guys. I checked out RFC and found some useful info and I decided I'm going to do the mod. I just ordered the the grip bushing, screws and Hogue wraparound 1911 grip with a good amount of thickness from brownells. I was also able to get a Volquarsten sear, trigger and hammer bushing for a total of around $100. I was planning on getting the Volquarsten accurizing kit for $109 but found out on RFC you only need the trigger and sear to drop the trigger pull by half and eliminate the creep in the trigger w:h:

I'll let you guys know how it turns out cou:

So I finally finished this project, to recap I installed: Volquartsen Trigger, Hammer Bushing and Target Sear. I also sanded down the grip panels drilled four hole and filled them with 1911 grip bushings and then installed Hogue 1911 grips. The grips are unreal, it was like they were custom made for my hand. The feel of this pistol now is amazing, I am shocked at how good it feels. This was my first real project so its a little rough around the edges but for me its all about how it feels in hand. Not to mention the amazing trigger pull with no creep and its super crisp @ around 3-3.5lbs.

Total cost of parts from Brownells: $155 CDN ( I got hit for $25 upon delivery and the exchange rate is $#!+)

Here are some pics.

I cut the grips a bit too much to make way for the bolt release and ended exposing the line of the old grip :bangHead:

Really nice work Hawkeye80. Are the grip bushing just threaded into the plastic frame or did you use something to glue them in more permanently?

Looks ace man!

Nice job.

Thank you sir, took quite a while to do but it was well worth it.

I used a bit of super glue to help secure it but I'm not sure how well it will work on the metal bushings. I plan on keeping these grips on permanently so if I need to use JB weld or something else later down the road remains to be seen. Hopefully it holds up though!

Nice job. Exactly the result I'm looking for. Thnx for the post.

Thanks for recommending RFC, it help a lot and gave me the confidence to do it.
